ok this might be a silly question but what does p/x to clear actually mean?

don't know why but to me i have thought its meant accepted as p/x now dealer wants rid off basically lol

to clear mean's they have a car that no one wants to buy (or it's worthless for them to sell). if they get rid of it in a part exchange (P/X) then they are getting money off you for a car they can't sell and they are getting a car that at worst they can put up for P/X to clear section and at best they can sell. so they really can't loose.

most of the times these sort of car's will be bag's of shit's with little to no mot and in most cases no tax and no chance of passing another MOT.

me and my mate's used to live off these kind of car's from local forecourts, once one of my mate's even passed up on a Lancia Intergrale HG for 300 pounds from the 'to clear' sections from a local dealer

As above, they took it in part payment gainst something better, and now they're lumberred with it.

its because i've found a n reg 1.4l polo with 100k miles for £995 p/x to clear

to me its seems a bit expensive doesn't have tax but the ad says will have 12months MOT, which sounds like there just going to pass it without checking it as i have heard some thieving people do at dealers with a garage (not saying all do lol)

what do you think?

steer clear mate, that's expensive even for a mk4 with full t&t and mint, not just one they want rid of.

and yeah they only wanted 300 for the lanica, tbf it was only the HG and not the full on wide arch beast, but still a lot of car for the money, although this was about 11 years ago now, you used to be able to pick rough 2 door mk1-2 escorts up for 100-200

i think that when the price of scrap when so high a while back it killed off most of the cheap car's for a while. even car's that were too good to scrap were getting weighed in because it was easier than trying to sell them, and now you have the scrappage scheme fucking things up as well, has that shit ended yet?

Dunno. I still don't get the logic of it. Yes if you can afford a £500 car and thats what you have and you could get £2,000 cash for it, then it would be a good deal. But if you get an imaginary £2,000 and lumbered with maybe £5,000+ credit then how is that a good deal for someone who can only really afford a £500 once of payment for a car?

if you walked in to a dealership before this scheme was started they were so desperate they would of given you 2k of the price any way, so why waste a good car that's just a little old? i blame the 'keeping up with the Jones' type of attitude, next door probably did it and got a shinny new car so now they feel they have to do it to keep up appearances.

I remember the p/x section at Autorama in MK when i was a teen. Got a Chevette 4dr for £40 which had clothes pegs holding the windows up.

There were loads of them,usually with a little accident damage or something.

Someone on my street went for the scrappage scheme (its a small street),used to drive an Audi A4 and damned it for a Seat Leon. The Audi was a better car..

I aint getting started on Gordon Billions,before he sold half our gold back when it wasn't worth anything,he abolished the rolling classic car taxation. My Polo is a quarter century old this year and would've been tax free.

most of the ones I'm finding though are 100k+ mileage whats the highest mileage do you think is ok, i know it depends on each car but generally how many miles are these polo's good for?

i'd say that a 100+ millage on 13ish year old car isn't that bad tbh, even one with 130k on it has only done 10k a year. it's more about how well the car has been looked after. even car's with 60k on the clock could be nails due to being abused. normally if a car has got high millage but looks in good condition its a good sign that even though it's been used it's been looked after.

It's crazy when you see stuff like lupos in the scrapage scheme. Even thouh there 10 years old they still feel, look and drive like a new car. Has all the mod cons so I don't see why you would scrap it. It's even worst when you see things that are classics or future classics.
