I've just spent the past 45 mins reading this thread. Gorgeous car, I seen it at the VW Festival and it looks even better in the flesh!

8-)

Thank you, means a lot :)

Thanks! Yeah there are a few conversions going on at the minute, looking forward to hopefully seeing some next year 8-)

I got a nice shallow sump for Christmas today :)

I'm gonna buy an engine crane and stand tonight and hopefully start some work on the engine tomorrow.

Merry Christmas everyone :D

Thanks mate :)

Thought I'd do a quick update just to stop the thread dying completely!

I haven't been able to make much progress as I'm poor from Christmas :( I did manage to get the turbo off the engine though..

IMG_0502.jpg

The plan is to hopefully get a K04 set up bought next month. I'll also be buying a BAM inlet, 20v throttle pedal and loom, Lupo GTi/TDI pedal box and VR6 MAF when I can afford them, hopefully within the next couple of months.

Nothing exciting but I did start painting my cross members today to tidy them up, a quick before and after picture

IMG_0524.jpg

And as I haven't posted it up yet, my new washer bottle I bought to fit in the boot. Small enough?

IMG_0511.jpg

The plan is to get some sound deadening bought so next week will probably consist of stripping the interior and fitting that!

Hubs and wishbones came off today

IMG_0527.jpg

I'm gonna be getting Powerflex bushes and the wishbones seam welded and powdercoated. Think I'll also be converting the hubs to take nuts instead of bolts :)

This is just so awesome, the work you're putting into it puts many to shame! Will it be ready for UD (Don't know if that questions been asked already..!?)

Think this maybe the first time Iv looked at this...seen a turbo then worked backwards, such a nice car! so simple yet so effective! good luck with all your plans

Absolutly love this car, cant wait to see the engine build, are you cleaning it all up before it goes in?

Found this on my laptop from UD had a real good look at it and loved it (sorry about the iphone quality)

IMG_0531.jpg

What shows are you at this year?

Loving this, nice and subtle. Wish i could get my mrs into a car like this!

Keep it up

Maybe UD next year  I'm not aiming to get it finished for a few months yet. Even once the engine's in there's still a lot of other work to be done and it's quite hard finding time around work at the minute

Thanks mate! The engine will be getting painted and I'll be getting stuff polished before it goes in and the bay will be getting smoothed :)

The Polo probably won't be at any but I'll be getting to as many as I can anyway

Well after weeks of being lazy and doing pretty much no work on the car  I decided I needed to get myself motivated and actually make some sort of progress, starting with actually getting the engine out of my garage at home and down to the unit.

So it turns out the Lupo actually makes a good van

IMG_0563.jpg

And finally at the unit

IMG_0565.jpg

I'm on the hunt for parts at the minute too. A couple of purchases from this week..

DSCF0107.jpg

Audi TT throttle pedal and loom. I just need a pedal box now

I'm going to start stripping the engine down this week, and hopefully get the GTi engine out of the car so I can start work on the bay

Can pick pedal boxes up fairly cheaply, sourced one for a guy at work, mint condition 'rado hydraulic one for like £40 :)

I'll have to keep an eye out :)

Started stripping the engine a little bit last night.

Need to decide what's getting painted and what's getting polished now :) The AC pump will be getting binned though!

My new drivers side engine mount arrived today. The mount is from a 9n3 gti so can sit in the original position in the bay, although it does mean that the driveshafts will sit at an angle so I may move it anyway but we'll see :D

The plan is to get the gearbox mount from the same car and get a dogbone mount and modify it to fit

And finally onto the engine stand

And the engine looking a little barer

A bit more stripping and this is how the engine stands at the minute. I have started sanding the block ready for painting too.

It's a lot of time, effort and money but hopefully it'll be worth it when it's done :) It just depends how dedicated you are I suppose, or how deep your pockets are if you get someone else to do it

Not much of an update but my engine cover came today :)

Fantastic car and great thread, I bought a golf 1.8t gti for the winter months, was thinking of putting it in the polo but not sure now, been quoted £2.5k to have it done, as would never take on the job myself. So may just paint a few bits in the engine bay instead. Keep us updated and hopefully see the car at GTI inters

A lot of great looking polos this year....

Edited by maeveduhy

just read this whole build thread and now I'm gonna go sleep and when i wake up in the morning and i get outside and into mine i feel some what sad that its looks crap compared to this hahaha :) , great read so far ! cant wait to see when the engine is in :) .
