try quinn direct, out it under your car but your parent as prposer and main driver. we rang them and they ssaid that is allowed as quinn directs main driver does not mean the person that drives the most. and they are very mod vwfriendly

Lol not to rub it in or anything, but just got a quote for my 2nd year's insurance - 1 year licence & ncb, pass plus, 50yr old dad on insurance, induction kit and performance exhaust - £880! / £80 a month from Aviva, fully comp - £400 less than any comparison site!

Lesson here =

1.Putting a parent on insurance can knock it down by 10% or more

2. Do pass plus, it'll pay for itself and the experience is useful

3. Price comparison sites won't always give cheapest - you still need to shop around!

4. Modifying doesn't mean the insurance companies will rape you, just pick the right insurer

5. Ignore renewal notices until your're sure it doesn't get cheaper

6. Declare mods or don't run them!

I'm 17, got a 1l mk3 polo 1994.. same as yours?? and I'm paying 1200 fully comp with churchill :D

Why go fully comp on a car that cost your £500 to replace if you crash it? You'll loose your NCB by claiming, have to pay any excess, and after all that they will probably only pay out £100 once you've paid the excess of. Then come renewal time your policy is going to cost a shedload because you have a fault claim on it....

F/C is pointless if you don't have protected NCB, your young, or you have a cheap car.

Not always true. my renewal came in about £200 cheaper and that was after a crash. just glad i had legal protection TBH as they did most of the leg work.

might also have been because the guy never replied to any of his or my insurance companies letters, so his company well and truly shafted him, I got a courtesy car, then a cheque for £300 no questions asked to get the car repaired (only worth £400 on the books at the time, £800 after their & my insurance assessor looked at it), paid for a full course of physiotherapy and then awarded me £1500 in damages. still the other guy was a merc driver and rightly deserved it and i would hate to see his renewal quotes.

Go direct to people like avia etc and see what they want too. Even so, £3500 is a bit steep for tpft!

My first year was £1900 for TPFT

What size/year is your polo?

Cheers pal, I actualy rang aviva and they want £7500.

It's a 1L 1992.

What?!?! I'm 17 nearly 18 with a 1l 1992 polo (and its a coupe what cost more to insure)

I'm only on around 2k a year

"How do young drivers get cheap insurance?"

Answer: They simply dont!

We are seen as a very high risk group. Insurance companies rip us off, cause they can!

But Morethan were good for me, maybe worth having a go on there.

I paid I think, about £700, tpft under my dads in my first year on a 1.0l 6N, and then it went to £800 on my valver in my 2nd year, fully comp but still under my dads name.

Hmm... Companys Number Please :ninja:

Theres a company in neath..south wales..

Who have intoduced a new policy called i-kube.

Basically they come and put a trakker on you are car and u cant drive between 11pm and 5am. Unless emergency's and u have proof....

Or u get a charge of 45 quid.

I used them on my pulsar before it blew up. And it was in my own name no ncb for £970.

I was 18 no ncb.. Two dependants... Annual mileage of 5k (altho did close to 10k in 5months).

Great thing is the tracker is connected to your battery so there is a signal 24/7.

However.. Their documentation says you cannot 'drive' the car between 11pm and 5am. So when i did .. I told them i had broken down and was on tow.

They had no reason not to believe me..

Try them on 01639 641200

their called motoquote....

Nick

My first year driving on my GT at 18 was 1400tpft with Adrian Flux.

When I hit 19 with 1 years NCB I went with brentacre and it was 800tpft with my Polo3 discount with up to 100bhp limit and any mods I want for free :)

I'm now on my second year with brentacre and I'm down to under £700tpft, roll on July and being 21 and 3 years NCB :D

I'm with Admiral and pay just a tad over £800 fully comp on my gt with mods declared.

Thats 20yrs old, 1yrs no claims, policy and car in my name, and 1 claim on a policy just after i started driving and only been driving since end of 2008.

Just shop around its the best way. Get quotes and keep looking around to knock your lowest quote down.

I'm with Brentacre too and they've been great for me so far.

I'm paying about £800 tpft with EVERYTHING declared, thats for me and my other half insured to drive, 100bhp limit, 1 accident a 1 ncb (license for just under 5 years now)

The guys there are always great to talk to aswell, very helpful.

silly prices tbf! I'm 20, 1 crash paying out 2k, 3 points, no ncb, I'm payin £1000 on own name on a 1992 mk3 1 litre,

quinn direct pretty good tbf

Adrian flux have a special 'young drivers' policy scheme thing. It worked out a load cheaper for me (1.4K TPFT @18 0 NCB and had held a full license for 1 month)

Most places where quoting around the 3K+ mark.

93 1.3 Genesis that is. Pretty much any mods allowed for free (excluding mods that increase BHP)

Thats crazy.

I was paying £900 on provisional, now TPFT in my own name and paying £500.

WHAT COMPANY IS THAT!!!!

How old u?

If you are 17/18 thats stupidly cheap!

I'm with Quinn Direct with a provisional with me as the owner...£568 =]

Gonna go up quite alot tho when i pass

I'm 19, 1 crash 0yrsNCB

1 litre 1992 breadvan was £1200 for me and my girlfriend (20, 0yrs NCB)

i now drive a 1.9 D-turbo peugeot 306... insurance was £1000 with the girlfriend on it aswell. go figure...

tis all bullshit... takes a good couple week to find the right price.

haha i paid 777 on my own policy when i was 17 on a 1l mk3 polo coupe, then i upgraded to a 1.3 mk3 polo coupe and they only wanted an extra 30 quid :) joys of being female, years no claims this month :D

If you really want to be jealous....

My beetle is insured with RH insurance fully comp with an agreed value of 6K all mods declared- bigger engine, twin carbs, porsche brakes lowered (a bit) and it only costs......

£65.

A YEAR!!!!

the joys of being a 25 year old teacher in a quiet place with 2 other cars in my name and having a license nearly 9 years...
