I took my lowered 6n2 gti to a garage today because it had a rotational sounding grinding noise coming from the front left wheel area, appearing when going round right hand corners/roundabouts and sometimes turning left.

The mechanic checked the wheel bearing and brakes and didn't find any problems, he said that the noise was the anti roll bar hitting on the chassis, the cause being that it is too low. To stop the noise and potential damage it needs to be raised. i

I have seen the evidence of where it is hitting on the chassis, there is slight denting/wear on the chassis where it hits. (i can get a photo of this if you need to see it)

I've seen plenty of 6n2's that are lower than mine.

How is it so that mine has this problem?

is it possible thats its your driveshafts? its more common than the anti roll bar catching the chassis.

hey thanks for your reply, but i don't think it could be the drive shafts in this case. When i looked i could clearly see where the anti roll bar and chassis are touching.

edit: found a photo its not recent but i have used it to demonstrate where it touches

i think i have the same problem with mine mate, altough it is usaully the driveshaft....if its just the occasional noise i just try to pretend its not there lol

same on mine aswel. its just something you have to put up with I'm affraid. I'm not sure what touches the chassis 1st as you go lower but my chassis is resting on both my anti roll bar & driveshaft so its not uncommon. only things that can be suggested are raising it up, or mod the chassis.

or like ed said you can just leave it & let it take its cause, mines managed to flatten the chassis out of the way if that makes sense, and the same is slowly happening where it hits the driveshaft, its grinding its own notch :/

so in answer to your question, its fine, most people who are slammed get it, welcome the club haha

i had this problem on mine, every time u go over a bump the anti-roll bar knocked..it drove me mad

what i did was i cut up an old inner tube, wrapped it round the bar where it was knocking and secured it with a couple of cable ties

havn't heard a knock since :-D

This is the normal problem with "all" 6n2s that have the ARB. My was resting on the ARB and was not very comfort to drive. I lowered the ARB about 1.5cm on the mounts under the car, and that gave about 2 cm more room. Now i drive a bit lower than before, and it is not resting on the ARB so it is a MUCH better drive :)

this is just what happens to every 1 when you lower your car to much....

I've had it with every mk4 I've had...

My 6n mk4 never had the problem. And that thing was loowwwwwww

Stambo how did you manage to lower the anti roll bar? is it a straight forward job?

thinking of either doing that , modding the chassis, or the innertube idea :p

dont know how it works on polos as I'm new to the lil dubs, but could you not get droplinks (like you can for leons/mk4 golfs etc) to move the arb out the way?

hey I'm not sure the set up is the same as a golf/leon I've had a look round for drop links and there doesnt seem to be anywhere that does them for 6n2 so probably not possible

nah but as said on fbook, you know how silly low i am and I've never had a clunking, driveshaft has notched the chassis for me aswell....hmm
