Only joking, I'm just wondering where you stand on driving a car to a garage for MOT work.

I know you are allowed to drive a car to a 'pre-booked MOT test' or whatever, but I'm just wondering whether this applies to getting work done aswell. Thing is, the garage I'm getting the work done in isn't the garage I'm having the car tested at. The car has already been tested (failed) so I want to take it to another garage for the work, then back again for it's re-test.

A time slot for dropping the car off would be 'arranged' and I'm sure the garage would back this up if I got pulled, and it is for an MOT.. just not at that station. Would this be allowed or not?

also depends on how quickly you get the garages

I phoned the DVLA you are allowed to drive to and from a PRE-BOOK MOT only and you must have insurance.

double check with the DVLA

you can drive away from the mot station after failing to a place of repair,

so

fail, garage, mot(pre-booked)

So basically if I couldn't do the work myself it would have to be done by the garage that MOT'd it, and as it currently stands (car is back at my house) I would need to book the re-test in the first garage and then have the work done just before they re-test it?

The situation kind of sucks balls really as the prices I'm getting from the garage to do the job is crazy!

Ahh cool I get it. So you can't really have a different garage do some work AND do the rest yourself? It's either all done at home, or all done at a different garage to the test centre.

the way i see the law yeah. You could probably blag it with the popo by saying, its going for repairs pre-mot... you might be ok - but who knows

Dad works at garage and you can legally drive the car to get parts - obviously as long as you can prove it, maybe ring parts place first? and legally to the mot or back home if fails

tbh just drive it there, my bro was doin some work on his before the mot bout 2 weeks agfter it ran out he got pulled, only a 30 quid fine .... so its not that bad

The thing to bare in mind regarding all this though is....technically you are not insured if your car has no MOT.
