I have a blank key, its the right shape and everything. And i've got the original key with the tag on it still.

Just wondering wether a normal key cutter can cut it, or do i have to take it to VW?

Most likely a normal key cutter. I got one cut for my Mk3 in about 2 mins for a fiver.

Depend i think, do you have a factory fitted immobiliser?

If so i think you will need to get it on vagcom to code, might be wrong though?

Yeah sorry I was presuming it was just the straight forward key. If it's got an immobiliser built in then it's going to be a more expensive and annoying job.

Am I right in thinking that the later 6N keys (post 1997) have a square end and are the only ones with an immobiliser chip?

The early pre-1997 ones have a kind of spikey end and don't hold an immobiliser chip?

My mk3 keys are just a blade in a rubberized VW symbol Sobieski imagine if it's a mk1,2 or 3 a straight cit from a key cutter should be ok :)

Ebay usually sell them.

If you google volkswagen classic parts it takes you to volkswagens german site click on locksmiths and key blanks are there. You should be able to order them through uk parts departments . Cheers Mark

Its just a standard key, no immobilizer or anything.

Managed to bend the only key I have for my G earlier by closing it in my front door :(
