hi people my mate thinks my polo has a private plate but i am unsure so just wondering if anyone would be able to find out. i have owned the car for about a year and did not get any paperwork for the plate any help would be great cheers the plate is M42 VME

It's all in the eye of the beholder. That's that car's registration, so all the paperwork you need it on the V5 (logbook). For the most part, only numbers up to 21 are reserved by the DVLA for sale as "cherished numbers". Whether it's a cherished plate edpends on whether someone would want to part with money for it.

There's nothing to stop you getting a valuation off somewhere like newreg or regtransfers, but be aware most of these are brokers, so there's a difference between a valuation and a sale.

As someone who trades numberplates, I would view this as having a value, but not a particularly high one, or one that I would pursue to add to a portfolio.

i have just remembered that the day i bought the car one of my ex girlfriends offered to buy the plate off me as her name is victoria may emery so i might have to see if she would still want to buy it. if she does how would i go about changing it into her name and what would i do about a registration for my car ( the car the plate is on ) as i would need a new registration so my car could stay on the road many thanks

OK, I don't normally work with car to car transfers, I tend to work with retentions, so this is a bit rough. Use a form v317 off the DVLA site, to trasnfer it onto her car, put in a cheque for the fee, and whatever docs it needs, and you'll get issued new V5's, tax discs and MOTs, then you stick these and a new set of plates on your cars.

I think there's some way they stagger it, so you get yours, then she gets hers, but that'll be just like old times I'm sure

it would definitely be a great fooking result and thanks again for the help i will look into it. my current girlfriend did not like that last comment haha
