what fuel system to make a mk2 run a gt

Featured Replies

i'm ready to put a gt engine in a mk2 and am not sure what to do about the fueling for injection instead of carbs. do i need everything from a mk3? ie fuel tank, fuel lines ect?? and does a mk3 tank have a swirlpot in it? i already have a gt fuel pump.

what have you done mk2 gt people?

Injection doesnt use swirlpots but does have an accumulator thing.

You would need the GT fuel pump, ECU, Fuel tank with lifter pump (suppose you could use the feeds on the carb tank), MPI inlet manifold with injectors.

so i can actually do it with what i have? or should i get a mk3 tank with the lifter?

Thats what I'm not sure on. the carb tank feeds from the bottom if I'm right, so as long as you place a small glass type filter or similar before the pump to protect it i cant see why not.

this is covered in Gaz's guide:

I swapped the lot on mine, tank, pumps and lines, but thats because i had them, it seems you can use the mk2 tank if modified as described in that guide.

ok thanks mate. can comeone confirm they have done this and it works before i rip the car appart and realise i should have got a whole mk3 system?

best to swap the tank as you'll need a lift pump and the mk3 tank has a built in swirl pot inside the tank.

yeah i thought it would i dunno why that other guy sugested otherwise. thanks mate.

You don't need to use the Mk3 tank. Link together the old inlet and outlet and place the lift pump in the top of the tank. I ran mine like this for 12 months and did many track days with it and it was fine.

i don't see why you would need use the lift pump ddo. as the feed and return pipes are at the bottom so the fuel doesn't need lifting out of the tank as it is with mk3's.

unless I'm looking at the wrong tank desing on vagcat.

were is this in tank swirl pot? only thing i can thing of is the accumulator chamber near the inline fuel pump outside the tank.
