Since lowering my car the steering wheel is off to the right when the wheels are straight. On checking my tracking I discovered when the steering wheel is level the wheels are 6mm out at the front!

I'm on the understanding that the adjustment comes from the long black steering bar behind the engine that can be seen on the passenger side of the engine. But do I start adjustment with the steering wheel locked in the perfectly level position? Or have it so the front wheels are straight; Adjust, then take the steering wheel off afterwards and straighten it? Put simply, How do you track a mk2 Polo?

Bit confusing as tracking is usually easier than this.

First the o/s wheel is adjusted with the steering wheel, then the n/s is adjusted with the adjustment on the steering arm, then remove the steering wheel and replace it in the dead ahead position.

On mine the passenger side is the only adjustable track rod end. So i line up the drivers side wheel, and then adjust the passengers side. When the wheels are then lined up, i just adjust the steering wheel so it points straight. Thats for my mk3 but i can imagine it being the same for a mk2.
