1.0 tuning options

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I bought my 6N 1 litre just over a week ago and had problems from the start, with the car eventually ending up on 3 cylinders constantly despite good spark. I took it to a mechanic and it turned out compression on cylinder 1 was zero, and with more investigation he found that the entire engine was basically a write off! The oil hadn't been changed for so long that it had become ineffective.

As I'm only 18 I can't afford the insurance on a bigger engine so a cheap low mileage 1.0 engine is being put in. However I'd quite like to get it making a bit more noise and fancy treating it to a few mods as I now have a solid engine to start with. What induction and exhaust kits are out there? It's just my runaround for work etc but I have a 30-mile commute and fancy making it more fun whilst I save up for coilovers and wheels.

Thanks

to be honnest there isnt a right lot u can do....this sort of thread should be a sticky its been asked so many times lol but all you can try and do really without spending alot of money is keep it well looked after with regular services. dont buy the cheap stuff either. it will help a little. take off the exhaust manifold and clean most of the carbon out and ake it flow a little bit better...obvs wont do a right lot but all the small things will help.

as for more noise, get a decent panel filter and u will notice a wee bit more noise and a wee bit more acceleration but really not much.

Ah ok cool, thanks. I don't think the 1.0 is that slow! Well, I take that back but they are fun to chuck around. This car will be a PVW project car once it's running a few mods - I share a desk with the editor as I work for PBMW :p

sort me out something then :)

Haha in what way? It's only my second week in the job I'm not on the favors list if that's what you mean!

induction kits/panel filter are the only mod that will help, IF its the AAU engine, they sound great!

A chav looking exhaust will get you attention form un-insured saxo's ect, and getting dusted  so i wouldnt bother.

save the rest for exteroir mods and make it look shweeet. wish i could lol :p

It's the later 999cc ally engine - or at least that's what's being taken out so I hope that's what's being put back in! Lol I revved the old engine without the airbox attached and the throttle body made a brilliant noise even though the engine was only running on 3! Thanks for the advice... I've got a 43 year old Imp for rinsing saxos anyway (when it works!)
