Chinks PINK/Orange/Black/Blue Valver !update!

Featured Replies

Hi, just thought id put a build thread of my Valver up

Model : 1.4 16v

Year : 1998

Mileage : 144k and rising!

Colour : Less said the better..

Wheels & Tyres : Audi pepperpots with 165/50 potenza's

Suspension : Loww..

Anyway, the story so far!

Bought this at the back end of November 09, from jake_smith on here, after traveling down to cannock to collect it!

Was advertised as rot free which suprised me on a 6n, untill i looked under it, immaculate!

All the rot seems to have been contained on the passenger side door!

Anyway went down to collect the car, and after a quick test drive R639 WYD was mine for the princely sum of £600! Tax was due 3 days after i got it, one wheel bearing was completely knackered and whining like crazy ( although there was no play in it ) there was a strange smell of liqourice and whenever i turned the air vents on sugar blew out! however none of this bothered me as the car was meant to be remapped and running a raised rev limiter, and i was much more eager to try this out on the way back than worry about any little niggles!

Needless to say i was impressed, to say the cars done 144k it doesn't miss a beat, pulls like a train and certainly supprises some people! Got the car back, taxed it and drove it around for a week with the dodgy wheel bearing, decided to go get it changed that friday, meanwhile had a look under the car, no rot or anything, although the tyres were scrubbing on the coils and were bald on the inside! got all the camber taken out at the same time then had it re-tracked and ordered a set of 175/50 R14's to replace the 185/55's that were on there!

Anyway, in the week id owned id i decided matt/satin black just wasn't quite me as i prefer bright! so ordered some cans of satin/matt orange in a nice bright shade - Cracked on with it over the weekend! Started prepping it saturday, de-bumpstripped the one side that had one, masked everything up and started spraying! unfortunatley 10 cans didnt quite do it so had to wait 3 days for another 6! Painted, unmasked, put back together, got the valver wheels back on and tinted my headlights!

About 2 weeks after this my mate's pickup was involved in a 'drift incident' so his audi pepperpots came up for trade as he needed 14's for his new mk2 loon! Cue a trade involved with my valver wheels so I'm now rolling on 6x15 audi pepperpots on 165/50 r15's, final et with adapters et 13!

Anyway some pics!

As i got her!

C + C welcome!

colour change again??? Lol does look better tho. theres a matt orange polo on here, not a 6n tho :)

I like it in the new colour mate and it is a quick car, i would know iv been in it :D

Loks very nice in that orange, and the wheels suit it really well :)

I bet you cant see a thing at night thought with those headlights

Yeah colour changed a week after i got it, i like to stand out so thought id go for something bright!

Aye its a quick little car thats for sure! i prefer it in the orange rather than black, just a tad different

And nah I'm not gunna lie, the headlights are pretty poor, the bulbs are like candles themselves and the tints no help, I'm going to invest in a hid kit when funds allow though so should be useable again! i just have them on so i dont get pulled tbh!

yer not bad, but these wheels look suspicously like mine, and i prefer drift incident rather than crash.lol. Car looks well (which cant often be said for chinks creative side)hah.

Sorry - drift incident! ill edit that in!

Just looked at how it was now, aye its changed a fair bit! would have liked it if it still had the leather's in it mind! Least i now know that its had a fairly recent new gearbox etc so thats all good! I'm meant to be going to get another headliner and pillars this weekend anyway so they'll all be covered in black leather look vinyl, along with the dash hopefully, got a new set of mint valver seats aswell so its all getting there!

nice to know you still keeping it alive,

Major Update.

Well since the last update alot has happened.

And i mean, alot.

So, my thermostat went, cue a new thermostat housing, dismantling it to change it was abit of a bitch though. After taking the inlet manifold off, fitting an entire new thermostat housing + thermostat, then putting it back together to discover the head had gone due to the car over heating while i was trying to get it to a work space to do the thermostat, stripping it all back down, cue mass buying of new parts! New water pump, timing belt, inlet manifold seals, exhaust gasket, expansion tank, head gasket and thermostat. Took the head off, took it into work, cleaned it out in the cleaning tank, set it on some parallels and ran a clock along it to check if it was warped, as there's very little material left on the head by the look of it so didn't want to remove more if i could help it, only .0007" out of square overall, so gave it a quick rub down with an oilstone, cleaned out my inlet manifold at the same time. At this point i also made an EGR blanking plate to fit between my EGR pipe and my inlet manifold. While everything was off the car i painted the rocker cover, the inlet manifold, the drivers side engine mount aswell as the HT lead cover and the oil/coolant caps. Re- assembled the engine, on a friday afternoon, rushing to attend a rolling road the next day. BAD IDEA!! took the car down the road, forgot to tighten some wheel bolts, wheel fell off! luckily no damage as i heard the noise and stopped just as it came off. Set off home and realised that i hadn't tightened the crank bolt, and it was only nipped, pretty sure abit of poo came out! managed to get all the way home, just as i was turning around by my house, bam, bolt came loose, pulley slipped, smashed 8 valves. Pushed straight back into the garage, stripped down, new valves, re-assembled, BOLTS TIGHTENED! changed oil and coolant, all fine :)

In the mean time i got some 165/50 potenzas and fitted them to some 7j x15 BBS RXII Replicas that i had laying around. I also bought a headliner and pillars since the car was lacking them, retrimmed them in faux leather and fitted them. Then after getting bored i decided that orange was boring, and my car needed a re-paint. So my mate drew a cock on it, as you do. We later turned this into a cat, but it wasn't very successful! Probably one of the quickest repaints ever, we started prepping at 4pm, i washed the catpenis off, scotched the car down, then stripped off what needed to be stripped, masked everything up, sprayed, left it to dry, unmasked and re-assembled the car by 9pm :D

Then yesterday i hit 145,000 miles, thats all for now :D

Getting rolling roaded on sunday to find out its power output too, other than that, no news :)

Love it the sugar coming out the vents made me laugh and the smell of liquorice! Willy wonka may have been a previous owner. How hard was it rattle canning your car? Did you do it outdoors it looks a really good finish

I did it in a garage mate but you could just as easily do it outdoors, i just didn't want to get overspray on the kerb or any of the cars around that was all so i thought i better garage it. And its not hard at all really, mask up or take off everything you dont want painted, and just go for it basically!

How hard was it rattle canning your car?

Rattle canning?????? wow. how many rattle cans did you use????

Wel well well

what can i say dint you get the bad end of the deal, wen i had it i had to change the thermostate housing aswell.

poor you

but hey life goes on good to see big things going on all over again

big thumbs up
