REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING UPGRADE

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just another quick question, I've finally come round to trying to install a remote central locking kit to my Polo.

I bought a cheapo one from eBay that say's its universal. But I need to know which wires lock and unlock. After taking the door panel off my driver door there are just SO many wires I don't know which ones are which.

So if anybody can help me out it will be much appreciated as I have sat here in my car for the past 2 hours thinking... Which one...

Thanks!!

what year polo?

It's an 08 Polo, 9N3

you have a 1 wire negative resistive locking system if you are adding central locking then you need to wire it up this way

the lock wire on the car is a blue/white in the drivers side sill

get the lock wire from your remote locking kit and connect it to that

then you need to get a 180ohm resistor and connect one end of it to the unlock wire then connec t the other end of the resistor to the same blue/white wire that you connected the lock wire to

what locking kit have you bought so i can tell you which wire connects to what

I've bought this one : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Also could you tell me how to remove the fuse box? As I need to wire some of the wires from the kit to the indicators.

Thanks!

you don't need to remove the fuse box as the indicator wires can be taken from the ignition switch wiring and they will be

White/black and green/black wires at the switch

i have not seen that kit before so the colouring will be different to the r click and hawk kits i have done

so if you can give me the colurs and descriptions i can tell you how to connect it

I didn't receive any instructions or on what the colours do, I only received some of them which are for the 12v+ wire, ground wires, indicators and that's about it. But I have attempted to try it out.

Could you give me instructions on where to find the indicator wires and the 12v positive supply?

Thanks

12v + thick red on bottom of fuse box

earth connect to an existing earth point in drivers footwell

indicators as mentioned earlier

its not much use to you without instructions

does it have anything printed on the casing of the central locking saying anything like lock comm, unlock comm etc

if it does i can then tell you how to wire it up

There was a sheet it says:

Yellow/Black and Yellow wire connected to commonline

Blue connected to Down

And Green to Up

right that helps

connect the yello/black and the yellow to an earth point

connect the blue to the blue/white lock wire

then connect the 180 ohm resistor to the green and the other end of the resistor to the same blue/white wire thats it

That's great could you give me a guide on how to get to the indicator wires and the 12v wire. As I have no idea how to reach them :S

Thanks

if you stickl your head up inder the dash and look up towards the fuse box you will see a row of bolts with thick wires on

the red wire is a permanent 12v+ supply

as to the indicators you will need to remove the steering wheel cowling this is held on with 2/3 T15 or T20 torx screws

you will then see on the steering column where the indicator switch plug is and the wires can be found there

Thanks very much TROUBLESTARTER. I will have a look on Friday!

Thank you

TROUBLESTARTER are you sure I connect both wires to the blue/white? As it seems to only unlock but not lock. Or maybe it's just te kit i got :p

have you fitted the required resistor

Yes I fitted the resistor onto the unlock. Does it require one on the lock?

just double checked and the resistor needs to go on the lock wire not the unlock

sorry

I've tried everything and it still seems to only unlock. Are you getting the guides of the net? If so can you give me the link to have a look.

I really need help on this.

I can get it to unlock, but I can't get it to unlock

I had this problem and it drove me nuts. I tried all kinds of resistors of varying values and finally bought a variable resistor from Maplins (38 pence!) and wibbled it until I got it to lock and unlock. When I measured the value that worked, it was 418 ohms. I'm guessing 420 would do the trick but I left the variable in there as it seemed happy.

this seams a lot of hassle, an 08 polo will have all the bits needed for this from the factory - you just require a key form vw and it programing, i know its a more expensive way of doing it - but messing about with wiring isnt for the normal person as fires can happen from mistakes.

Is this the general case for most aftermarket kits?

I've just bought one of these RightClick from eBay and i sure as hell dont want to be messing around too much with it!
