Polo GT vs Golf mk2 GTi

Featured Replies

Fair enough, I was just interested.

I've had the opposite experience of having had 3 Digipants ones that have been a total ball ache to get running right and a K-Jet one that's been a piece of cake.

The Digipants injection was introduced to reduce emmisions and improve economy. It's not as good in standard map as a well set up K-Jet car but being electronic it does mean when you mod you can remap them to a certain level before you have to go for a 3rd party ECU.

My K-jet car is too highly tuned for the original set up so it has to run an extra injector hooked up to a VSAM Pro box to stop it leaning out above 6,000rpm.

You're running a K-star?

It's called Vsam Pro but it does pretty much the same thing as Kstar.

Nick

couldn't you have overcome this by just doing the wur mod?

No becuase then it would over fuel in the midrange and you're just shifting the problem about. WUR mod works fine for small increases in spec but when you're running P&P'd head and manifolds, a lairy cam and an overbore it just doesn't cut it.

nick

no, i'm going to agree there.

So what's a Vsam, tried looking but google has failed me.

dale mooosh, the golf 8v will rape you on tax insurance and fuel, the gt is close enough to the 8v but half the price of everything :) have a gt until your 21 then you'll have more money to get a 16valver

end of!

Yeah there's scant ino on google.

It's much like the K-Star and plugs into the hall sender on the scuttle for timing and an extra injector in the metering head for adding more fuel at 500rpm increments. It's ancient tech but was on the car when I bought it.

nick

so it just plugs into the ignition amplifier?

The k star gets it's own mini ecu.

So what power is yours kicking out ?

He has enough to do this age old Golf trick:

It has it's own ecu in the cabin as well, to be honest I'm not 100% on how it all works as it was on the car when I bought it. As for power I don't know as it's never been on the rollers but it should be in the region of 145 - 150 bhp. It just about keeps up with my mates ABF'd MKII Track car so it does alright lol.

Are you the chap who had that proper nice Red Polo and then bought a MKV GTI?

Nick

Nope.

How does your car hold out against the R33wind 16v ?

Edited by Rich

Ah well, too many Rich's in this world (It's my middle name as well).

nick

But notice how they didnt put it on the valvers, nothing wrong with K-jet apart from the fact its an injection system :-p

so if K-Jet is post 87, Big bumper model's were released in 89. So Most big bumpers are not K-Jet?

IGNORE THAT I DIDN'T READ THE POSTS.

now realise all big bumper didnt come with it atall.

Also rich's points, they got rid of K-Jet for a reason, and the K-Jet has less weight to carry around with it, making it seem better than it actully was...?

They got rid of K-Jet because Digifant is more economic. The early Digi cars (87, 88 and 89) have the same kerb weight as the K-Jet cars but they're just not as responsive. The Digi ECU is a bit lame, you get Digi lag and it leans out horribly at the top. The K-Jet cars aren't loads faster (VW quote the same times) but people who have owned both agree that the K-Jet is more responsive when both cars are in a similar state of tune and feel quicker. Once you get inot the realms of the big bumper cars the difference becomes more apparent due to the extra weight.

The main advantage of Digi is they have a knock sensor so can alter the timing depending on fuel grade whereas a K-Jet car requires timing up on the furl you use (Mine is timed to run on 99 Octane as that's all it ever gets.)

Hope this helps,

Nick
