What's your favourite car you've owned, or own?

Featured Replies

Basic rules:

Three pics per car.

Reasons for liking it.

Where did you get it?

What happened to it?

No commenting on others, just post up your own and leave it at that, cuts out the shit when you're looking through. :)

For myself, I was living at my mother's and whilst walking the dog I noticed a mk2 GTI 16V sitting in a garage, started talking to the guy wwho owned it and apparently it was in there because it was pretty knackered, the gearing had completely gave out on it and the battery was dead.

I had a look around it and after some analysis realised that it was the stupid plastic linkages which were all dead, I negotiated the car off him at a very cheap price as it was original and had 190k on it, the bodywork wasn't rusty but it wasn't great, there was scuffs and scrapes, the seat had the usual bolster wear.

A quick rebuild kit later and I had something to run around in whilst my loop (car at the time) was being repaired after a handbrake turn in the wet on cobbles/lamppost incident.

It was a fun car, got a lot of looks and generally just had that retro cool feel to it whilst driving, pulled really well and was a great example of a 16V mk2, the best car ever.

I got my loop back and then put it up for sale and made a few quid on it, it was still an awesome car. I even named it "big jab" thanks to the plate.

I've had a few mk2 16v's and I liked this one the best, last one I had got an abf in it and a lot of extensive modifications. If I did it again, I would barely change a single thing on it.

Hmmmm, its such a tough one for me. I've had a few cars which have been amazing, but that I haven't felt that affection for that I have with some other not quite as logically 'good' cars.

I'm struggling to pick a car, I know what the best car I've owned is, but its not my favorite. That title is tied between a few.

I'm plumping for my Subaru Justy. A car that I bought for a bit of a laugh really, I just loved it from the second I sat in it.

This is how I bought it (well, after I had rallied it round a bit)

DSC00058.jpg

It had selectable 2/4wd with this awesome knob on the top of the gearstick that when you pressed it lit up these awesome jap 80's lights on the dash that said 4WD. It was amazing.

Awesome in the snow, came down a massive slippery hill ok that had a lot of crashed cars at the bottom, one of which was this new (at the time) audi...

Anyway, as we were off to the WRC in wales in a month or so me and my mates decided it would be funny to 'rally it up'. The wheels I already had for my polo. The rest I got given really...

At the WRC it was amazing, we got photographed by the press and everything lol. We actually drove 2 of the stages after they had finished and the justy was amazing round the gravel corners, just wouldnt let go of traction.

7-12-0817-1.jpg

The second night we camped was cold, and I mean cold. So cold that the gas camping stoves froze and wouldnt work...

so we warmed them on the justy, which started without fault...

7-12-088-1.jpg

Unlike robs discovery.... so the justy kindly lent it some electricity... GO ON JUSTY!!!!

Anyway, after the cam belt snapped on the M60, I weighed it in, the end of an era. I actually have a bit of a tear in my eye thinking about it, how sad is that?

Mine is a toss up between my old 20vT 6n, for obvious reasons really

20k57ah.jpg

And a Citroen ax gt i had, the thing i loved about this car is that i just used to nail it everywhere and it would just laugh and beg for more. I swapped a shitty mk6 escort for it that i paid about £100 for

It wasnt slow, and it handled really well, apart from a pipercross filter, full stainless system, -40mm springs and decent tyres, apparently its was stock, but it didnt feel that way, my brother and step dad had both had 1 each previous, my brother also had the GTi version, and it just felt alot quicker than i remember them feeling.

I never had any probs with it at all, and owned it about 10 months iirc, id have another in a flash

no pics of mine, but it just looked like this, apart from the added lamps under the plate, and mine wasnt the sport so had no stickers on it

er

id say my seat ibiza mk2

because i loved the fact that it was a completly standard engine (1.6) on a 1.4 box and i could beat a redtop vectra even though he had double and more my power.

i got it off my mate for 300 squids

ran into a taxi at a set of lights....my mistake...a tip here....dont piss about with your stereo while chassing a civic in which u wooped 3 days before

Out of all 17 cars I've owned my favourite has to be my first Mk4 16v Polo.

To me at the time and even now it was everything I wanted in a car.

During the week it was a reliable economical daily car,

At the weekend it was something I could spend my time on, either making it shine or driving it to places I had never been before.

Whatever kind of road or terrain I took it on it just took it all in its stride and on a good country/mountain road thrash it was really very quick.

But through all of this the most important thing of all, it had character, everytime I got in it I instantly felt at one with the car, hard to describe really but I was just really really happy driving it.

Here are a few picture of the weapon in question

Sadly though its life was cut short on the 3rd January 2009 when some drunk Latvian ran a Merc into the back of my cars taking the valver with it.

P1000243.jpg

P1000224.jpg

And thats where the story ends, obviously I've got another valver now but its just never ever been the same, felt totally different. Don't think I'll ever find one as good as T211 JHN.

I remember when you posted that up

What happend with the latvian guy? hope he was insured and you got paid out

Reasons for liking it: I learnt to drive in it with my Grandad, and it was so fun to drive! and a minter! I miss it.

Where did you get it? off my Grandad with 1700 miles on the clock.

What happened to it?:I fucking crashed it the day after spending £300 on new metric tyres and a full service! :crybaby:

No idea what happened to him, his court date kept getting put back, and as I didn't actually witness the event I was never asked to go to court or anything.

He was insured though and I did get paid out, didn't give me back the time and effort I had put into the car over the course of one year though getting it just how I wanted it.

Reasons for liking it. I had a thing for fords back then...

Where did you get it. From a Ford dealer in Falkirk...

Reasons for liking it: Obvious I think and always wanted to own one

Where did you get it: Previous owner in Nottinghamshire

What happened to it: It's sat collecting rust waiting for my money to fix it. Melted piston fail

gotta be my current car, or i wouldnt have had it so long

bought it on 140k, and its been faultless and ticked over 158k today

rwd, comfy, reasonable pace, comfy, good on fuel, cheap to insure, looks quite good imo and can get 4 mates and all luggage in comfort

bought it from a used car dealer, on the way to look at it the whole exhaust system of my GT just fell off. so i left a £1000 deposit when i got there. had pretty much sold itself

i was thinking about this after the last thread like it and i think that my jetta has some how become my favourite car i've owned so far. it just always seems to be evolving as time goes on and has unintentionally become some thing that i really like. i only bought the car about ten months ago so i we had some thing big enough to go on holiday in in the summer and then sell on and get some thing quick again, but it's really got under my skin.

this is how i got it

jetta-1.jpg

fitted coilovers and a few other bits and bobs but nothing major

19072009369.jpg

and this is pretty much how it stands now, i've done so much more to this than i had ever planned but it's been fun doing it and i really can't see myself selling it tbh

31122009102.jpg

once the scirocco is on the road i'm gonna take this off and give it a well deserved service and sort out the list of minor things that break on a weekly basis and i never get round to fixing

Its a tough choice, do you chose the fastest/coolest etc or the one you pulled the most girls in haha

I'm going to have to choose the Mk2 Golf 16v as i have had loads of fun in that due to the power/speed.

I bought it from someone of Pistonheads within 3hrs of its listing as i had the money from my Polo GT.

I still have it but I'm thinking of selling it to by my bros Mk2 16v as it has had 1000's more time and dosh spend on it and the spec is far better - and he wants to sell it.

I'd have to say it's my G40 but it was close.

Brought it from G40will on here and drove it home in the dark leaving my mate in his Golf GTTDI standing

I've had many a laugh in it from wasting more expensive cars to driving it over some of the lake districts wet mountain passes. Many scary torque steer moments :p Even scared some mates enough to want one.

Awaiting it's re-birth this year (when I pull my finger out!)

My mk2 golf 1300,

It's had loads of engine swaps and different levels of power (soon to have a respray and be a 2.0 16v), caining it and going places with friends since i was 16... I've loved driving enough to stop driving both corrado G60 and Mk2 GTi 16v.

205 gti 1.9 (1.6 box 4 branch mani lightened fly s/s exhaust)

loved it because it was quick and handled well

got rid because it was tidy on the outside but had alot of electrical gremlins

Seeing as I've only owned four cars (and only two which work ) my choices are limited :-D

Think I'll have to plumb for my mk2 scirocco, the polo's a great day to day car, bags of torque, easy to drive, decent sound system, makes me smile when I drive it but nothing like when I'm in the rocco

It might only be a 1.8 8v but it can still shift when he wants to (RR'd at 110bhp at the fly in November)and coupled to the noise that he makes is unreal! It was also a bargain at £350 haha

Reasons for liking it? I wanted a classic lightweight daily go-kart,probably based on an Austin Mini/MK1 Fiesta/Nova (id already enjoyed a couple of XR2's,so a 1.6/1.8 SuperSport or Lotus Fiesta was most likely). Id turned a concourse one-owner XR3i into a daily and had plans for it,but when another motorist finished it off completely i decided the replacement was to be smaller/lighter still. I found the Polo Coupe S by accident, and instantly realised it had the potential to be just what i wanted. Its solid feel showed through on the first drive, and i knew it was perfect.

Where did you get it? The interior, wheels, and wiring loom are all that's left of the red one, which i got from an auction in '03. I was there looking for boring cars to sell, but it looked promising so i bought the Polo too. Most of the other parts are from scrap cars/bikes/buildings.. I got this non-sunroof shell (with new petrol tank) from some dude in Carlisle, which was later painted by my uncle in Aylesbury.

What happened to it? It evolved into the car above, and is currently sat on my driveway, waiting to play..
