Alright mate just spent the whole evening reading your build, and liking the work. All about the 1.0s!

Looking forward to getting some cash and starting a build thread of my own. Pretty happy with just the coilys for now though tbh!

Looking forward to reading about the engine transplant, wanna do the same in a year or two.

Thanks alot buddy, its been a constant thing for the best part of two years for me now, and thanks to the 20vT conversion i doubt i'll be getting rid of it any time soon . I started this as just a casual thread, it seems like yesterday when moving the number plate seemed like a big deal to me!

I never thought i'd have a 1.8T polo but it looks like i'm gonna end up with one (as long as this all goes ok :p)

Insurance would scare me, if i did the same

That sounds so sick :) I maybe won't have a 1.8 any time soon, but might be an idea to stick with the 1.0 until I can afford something like that like you did. I was thinking of just a 1.4 originally

And yeah, insurance is my problem atm aswel..

I will believe it when I see it! Good luck...

I do realise this! But i dont need my car on a daily basis any more, so gutting it and rebuilding it doesnt bother me at all, not least when i have the motorsport labs at my disposal! And since the engine is costing very little for what it is, sourcing a 'box, driveshafts, mounts, brakes etc doesnt bother me, i'd been saving to do a conversion for a while, and this was always my dream one, so when the opportunity came up i couldnt let it go!

I appreciate your concern, and dont worry i've mulled over the factors many times already

Ok so today i did some work on the car before the mot, which included fitting the standard size plate in the normal position

Which IMO looks a bit funny with the angel eyes

I got a new fire extinguisher since my brother pinched mine

But, I reckon the car looks best by far without a plate

So i found out a bit more about the 20vt motor today, and would love to know what others would do in my position since its left me with a dilemma...

Mahle have been a little difficult to get hold of but they're giving it to me for nothing so fair play to them.

The engine is an AEB 1.8T which, Mahle believe, came out of an A4 - 150PS, (148 ponies) , 162ftlb . Unfortunately, it has no ECU or loom, not to mention clutch etc.

It has an EGAS throttle , so that would create further headaches.

Basically i (naively) assumed it was a higher tuned engine such as a BAM from a trans-mount vehicle, but for a low-tune motor which requires a serious amount of parts just to get it to run this is starting to look increasingly futile!

This has left me with a choice:

Get it and plough on, because its free, and spent lots of time and money hunting down parts

Leave it and go for a GTI conversion, or just for shits and giggles AFH with carbs etc or do an AVY with AFH head

Or finally, and this i will admit is a stupid idea, get the 1.8t, cannibalise it for parts and use it to make a 1.6 16v Turbo....

What to do? :?

i entirely agree. 1.6 16vt ftw!

Well i shall ask my tutor tomorrow about the viability of this, since his PHD is pretty much in "Whacking a massive turbo on shit" :p

agreed on the 1.6 turbz

An ARC or AVY 1.6 16v engine out of the Polo GTI can produce some pretty good figures if tuned carefully. The only down point is the gearbox, you'll really have to toughen up the 5th gear and awful lot obviously depending how much power you want to run it at.It's certainately alot different from the 20VT so id give it a go.

Have a look at Micheals from Holland:

or just for shits and giggles AFH with carbs

Is the AFH not the easiest to do though - since it came out the 6n, and the chassis are pretty much the same?! All you'd need it the engine and box and the loom?! You can pick up an AFH for pennies though, 500 for everything, shafts, loom, box, engine, etc? Then just whack on a set of carbs?

Or build the 1.6 AFH and whack a turbo on it..

But getting the loom to match up is a pain on late model 6n2s apparently

I dont see the problem?the 1.8t loom will be alot harder to wire in than an afh loom?

Compared to a GTI loom though

A GTi loom will plug straight in lol?

This 20vt a fake engine cover like your brakes then?
