the gti is not a safe engine will have bent all 8 exhaust valves if it was just on tick over going faster all 16

head off check the pistons job then.

that means heads had it but would the pistons be ok??????

You'd have to open it up to see if the pistons are okay, it's very touch and go when this happens.

without lifting the head off, I'd always assume they're dead.

worse case needs a full engine if you can fine one

best case a new head and valves

theres always engine on ebay, they go for around 300 to 500.

and its priced to get me my money back. not going to be a gay lord and take a loss am i.

borrow a bore scope off someone and have a quick nosey down the plug hole, at least then you can judge what the piston crowns are like
