Polo Coupe

Featured Replies

Make:VW

Model:Polo

Year/Reg:M reg.

Mileage:112000 on the clock but the engine had done about 70000 when I fitted it less than 1000 miles ago

MOT:23/07/2010

Tax:06/2010

Good points:This is a really cool car, I just miss my rwd beemers and want to get another e36, as that’s what I had before this.

The car started off life as a Match coupe; at some point before me owning it it had a GT conversion (I have the receipts for this). However when I bought it it was suffering with low oil pressure so I swapped the engine for a 1400cc ABD running GT management and a Poloace 8k chip. It has grey GT interior and black door cards. The car has recently (before my ownership) been fully resprayed in white with colour coded bumpers. The arches have been rolled to fit the 14x8et12 and 14x9et0 banded steels which have 195/45/14 Falken Ziex fitted and have done less than 1000miles.

The roof was in a state when I bought as at some point it had vinyl and somebody had done a bad job removing it, I have completed the job and painted the roof black, although I did this with a roller so it does have a textured finish.

Since I have owned the car I have replaced the flexi brake lines, front disks and pads, rear shoes, front track control arms, both track rods and ends, ignition coil, front suspension top mounts and the handbrake cable. Basically if it was worn I’ve replaced it.

Bad points:This car is low to achieve the look, as a result the steering arms hit the body on bumps and the ride isn’t all that comfortable. When I rolled the arches the paint split I have treated the bare metal and repainted the arches however if you look closely it can be seen. The front seats are a little grubby, but not bad for their age, also the drivers lower bolster has started to collapse.

Location:Derby

Any known rust and who banded the wheels

Ant

I'll get some engine bay pics up asap for you,

The car is pretty clean although there is some rust around the bottom of the boot. The battery tray is all good, no leaks but would benefit from a coat of underseal or something.

The wheels were banded by a guy on ebay, his work is good...

would you swap for a mk2 golf gti?

None as yet, there is a very slight out of balance around 45mph but it goes away quickly so I've not bothered balancing.

They all hold pressure well.

Also to add, it has got GT clocks although the temperature gauge doesn't work. It is lowered on Spax springs, with Spax RSX rear shocks and Gmax front shocks

Not got much interest so far, has anyone got any comments?......

saw this when i picked up your Phill J shocks and springs, looked great in the flesh with just the multispokes, bet it looks mint with banded steels.

Thanks, it is a different beast since you saw it, been tidied up loads... The roof is no longer a mess the wing mirrors and bananas are no longer yellow and blue and the bumper is now straight not wonky due to the broken mounts.

Banded steels really make this car..

btw it's now on ph

great stuff!

how fast is it then with the ABD?

Is it a standard ABD aswell?

  • Author

It's pretty similar to the GT in terms of performance except the power band is easier to use as its lower down the rev range.

ABD is standard, with GT inlet, injectors and management. I do have a GT head that could be sold with the car but haven't got the time to fit it due to other projects..

nice one man. So will you not be a dubber when this is sold?

  • Author

No, i need to get back into the rwd fold

yeh but you wont have a VW will you?

  • Author

No, should be another e36 like my old one.

Nice car mateee do you want 2 sell the Steels??

I'd prefer the steels to sell with the car as they make it imo, but if you were to offer me around £450 for them then I would probably let them go...
