Whats happened to car insurance prices?

Featured Replies

When I took out my policy on my 1.3 mark3 it cost around £1500, I was 18 and had one claim against me, not bad. Now I'm soon to be 19, I'm looking for something bigger and newer and maybe abandon the polo scene. Yet all my insurance quotes are of the roof, even with me pretending I'm 19 already? I even got quoted £1600 for my polo????

Has anyone else noticed the changes in insurance prices over the last few months??? and can anyone tell me why my quotes are worse than before with 1 year more road experience and 1YNCB :? :-?

Who are insured with currently? Surely your current policy will come down in price?

Inflation / Quantative Easing / Tax

All of the above have impacted insurance renewals since mid-Oct last year.

Basically, Bank of England is/was printing loads of money to pull us out of the slump. This 'devalues' the pound making it worth less then it use to - you therefore cannot 'buy' as much as you use to.

Example in point:

Before Chrimbo, a 2ltr bottle of coke retailed for £1.39; Last week, the same bottle now sells for £1.89 - in 3 months, the pound has devalued by 20% odd.

Expect it to get worse before it gets better.

Sorry mate I disagreem I've got a 1.3 6n and I'm 19 no claims been drving since Jun 2008 and got quoted £344 for my renewal this year.

My secret? Admiral multi-car policy them things are a beaut!!

I managed to get mine alot lower this time round but i'm old :(

My sons cheapest quote is over 2k for a 1.3 coupe, average is about 3k with most expensive being over 9k!!!!! Then they wonder why so many people drive with no insurance

too right man, 2 weeks ago i got a quote for my gt, (registered coupe S) and bearing in mind I'm 20 it came up with the cheapest quote of £670, the following week i done the same quote (both on confused.com) and it suddenly shot up to £1200.....WTF i haven't found a cheap qoute since

on my 6n 1.4 i payed just over 1500 last year ... with no mods, this year with my suspension added too ... (which cost me an extra 16quid last year to add it on) my renewal price is just over 1600 ... and when i rang them they said to me i would struggle to get it less anywhere else. i went onto admiral to get a quote and got quoted 1300... which is better but still more then i want to pay really.

insurance is a rip off....

if i was a girl then its a diff story .. my gf paid just under 700 quid to get insured on a 1.6 gt citreon c2 and she only been passed a few months. its a joke.

Chris

I'm having the exact same problem but I've just turned 18 and my insurance will go up like 600 quid apparently :/

i couldnt find a cheaper quote than my renewal this year, its the 1st time I've stayed with an insurance company after a year with them, i thought it was cause i got points this year..maybe not.

Whats happened is that everyone and their dog is now claiming insurance for anything they can...

Trip over the kerb...claim for it,fall at your work...claim for ir,get bumped in your car...claim for

whiplash that you may not even have got in the accident and so on.In order for the insurance

companies to keep paying out, everyone's premiums go up...simples.

Theres a saying that people use over here now that the Americans, who started all this shit coined....

WHERE THERES BLAME...THERES A CLAIM!

i'm with direct line at the moment, not for long though.

i own a 1.4 16v polo 1998 i'm 30 years old but i've only held my licence for the last 18 month so i have no no claims bonus and i pay £586 fully comp with my girlfriend as a named driver, but no mods.

i'm coming up to my first year of NCB and holding my licence for 2 years so i'll be able to mod my car ;) i've just had a qoute from adrian flux for £575 that modded with manifold, perfomance/cosmetic exhaust, inducted and coiled over, not bad at all me thinks?? give um a call.

if you cant make your insurance (for a sensible car) down to around £1000 you arent looking hard enough!! comparison sites are a crock of shit.

Unfortunatrly you are right. There has been a 60% rise in fraudulent claims as well!

amazingly an insurer company put a reply on this thread. id say the hike is because of the so-called wannabe boy racers, id tell em to go to germanys autobahn if they wanna race, then they will probs endin up racing police in lambos, or golf r32s

hay guys an gals been away for a bit well I'm drivin 4 years now last year my insurance was £600 now £2500 same car and insurance comp Quin Direct and thars only 3rd party fire and theft..... i had a crash but i didnt expect it to go up that much.....

I've noticed this, my policy dropped £20 to around £1400.
