Grumpy old man

Featured Replies

Is it just me (age 41)? Or is it the inability of people to communicate correctly?

I log onto the forum everyday to check if there is something available that I require, pertinant advice that I need, or other Polo drivers asking for advice I can offer. To be met with no location, no Mk of car, and no mention of postage (included or not). Reading through the 'Pinned' topics they almost all mention to include the above, to aid other forum users. However people still see fit to make the people that can help them, or purchase their items, ask for this necessary information.

Come on people, we are supposed to be a forum dedicated to the VW Polo, and helping/assisting our fellow poloites. So can we please start adding these little details that don't take long to include, but aid the rest of the forum users so much, making this forum easier to use.

Regards Si

I apologise if this little rant is in the wrong section, I wasn't sure where it should be posted.

Don't forget the highly descriptive titles like

"what is?"

"problem wiv ma car"

Or

"Will this fit a ....." FFS put as much as you can in the title!!

But yes, its annoying when people keep information to themselves like its gold dust. Or when people put stuff up for sale and when anyone asks for a price they just PM it. Just put the bastard price you want up so people can decide if its worth looking into or not.

23 going on 53

Your title got my attention

There seem to be alot of people on here incapable of putting an adequate title on their posts, I agree with this.

I'm 20 so you're not being a grumpy old man!

I also find it amusing when something is spelt so badly and makes no sense that it's just so much effort to read it.

If you can't even be arsed to type up your problem properly then how can you expect someone to be arsed enough to reply and help you?

'how cum mi car won't hit rev limiter no more'?

It's also annoying when people talk about their fuel injection engines having carbs.

What hope do they have of modding it sucessfully? :?

...and why do so many people not know how to Google?

'how cum mi car won't hit rev limiter no more'?

 that guy took numptying to a whole new level!

...and he didnt even take the advice

ha when i read the topic i knew it would be flooded with moderator replies lol

I'm unsure if it is the age thing, i think genuinely people are just lazy these days, is tough for us that have to deal with it all, i love my delete button, and if someone posts in the wrong section, or a post with no details, i want to just delete it and maybe then they will actually see the bad.

But it does not work, we then get a post saying "why was my post deleted"

Also i think the general tone with forum posts has changed recently, people feel they have to patronize the previous poster, or post utter drivel in a way to say "look at me, I'm so cool"

its a shame, the forum does suffer as a whole, gone are the days of people posting technical threads and the likes.

It's also annoying when people talk about their fuel injection engines having carbs.

Actually, that's one of my bad habits normal phrase I use is "SPI down a carb" , my other one is talking about dropping the engine and struts off a mk1-3 "on the subframe".

people are retarded, always assume the lowest common denominator and you cant go far wrong

the even more worrying thing is the muppets who ask the dumb questions are doing work on their own cars and selling it on eventually (if its not ratted or written off or never finished). to unsuspecting members of the public or other forum members at scene tax prices.

classic threads like:

"i got a pug 205 4 branch how do i make it fit my polo" WTF go buy a polo one for a start!!!

"my wheels not coming off and i took the 4 bolts out" just go away if u had a brain you would be dangerous.

"I'm fitting a R32,v8 cossy monster in my polo how easy is it? usually they dont have a clue and only own a poundland screwdriver, and in terms of wiring it would be more use made out of spagetti.

"my G40s not reliable and they suck" yes becasue you race it, generally abuse it except for washing it, think an oil change is a full service and dont spend a penny on pro-active maintance on it. most are coming up for 20 years old and over 100k on the clock they need some love.

an trying to sell things now you cant sell anything as the attitude is if you dont have a photo how do i know it exists. i cant believe you unless i see it and will you accept £15 posted when you asked for 15 for the item and postage can sometimes be more than the item!!

and why didnt you reply to my pm i sent u 5 mins ago? - emmm i have a job like 9-5 like most normal people do.

sad situation.

Or "I know its in the wrong section but...." but what? But you want to make more work for other people because your a fucking idiot box who thinks they are for some reason more important than anyone else?

Or people who feel it necessary to bump there topic every 200th of a second because people haven't replied to it. Give it at least a week, not everyone revolves around CP.

I'm going to stop reading this thread now, my blood pressure is rising

The only people who think they're more important than anyone else are those above who have posted on this thread :paranoid:

I's a forum, this will happen, get over it!!!

Yeah it will happen forever totally agree, but it drags the site down.

As for whose important - who really cares, all car clubs are full of people who think the sun shines out there own arses, just ignore them and get on with it. Lots of people want the title but when they get it they don’t perform.

To be fare to them been there done that in other clubs and being a secretary or treasurer or in charge of memberships is not an envious job, its more hastle than its worth sometimes but someones got to do it or the club doesnt function.

You looked on other VW forums seen some peoples comments regarding here?

In recent years these are comments I have seen...

"Right bunch of twats on CP", "full of just passed there test keyboard warriors" "Halfords school of modding" "CP is full or retards"

This isn’t the sort of reputation "we" want for the club is it!! That’s my basic point.

Where exactly did you see this? on another forum?

I generally think that the people who make comment like that are the people who for example make silly threads like the above ones, Or the ones that give out advice that is completely wrong and then someone comes and quotes that "if you dont know the answer...." thing, and then haves a big go at them. They end up getting annoyed and moving to another forum where there bullshit will be appreciated and start bitching about there last forum they signed up to.

Maybe CP is a victim of it's own success, probably due to having "club" and "polo" in the name, which is what 99% of people will stick into Google when looking for such a website!

Clearly there's no way of vetting posters prior to signup, and it would also be fundamentally wrong for posts to be removed containing poor spelling/grammar. Maybe the answer is that the forum is for subscription-payers only, although this would hardly be in the spirit of the "peoples car" company.....

Scottish VAG, Scirocco club, polo 3, uk polos to mention a few.

 Sounds about right.

But at the end of the day, its just the internet, I'm sure youre not going to die painfully because of what has/hasnt been said on it

Or people who feel it necessary to bump there topic every 200th of a second because people haven't replied to it. Give it at least a week, not everyone revolves around CP.

Word! Shakes head.

Generally people making a thread for a question that is answerable with google... or if they lurked on the forum for a week the question they were going to ask has already been asked four times this week.

The ones that really annoy me are the "Ideas on modding my...", "Will these fit my..", "How low can I go on.."

Research, buy, trial fit, keep or sell.. learn.

TBH on Polo3 some newbies like to open with "Hi I'm Mr X and i have come over from CP as its crap"

It might be something they feel if they come out with they will be excepted or it might actually be the truth.

"Anyone got any pics of Mk3's on ATS Classics?"
