Are there any 13's that'll fit over 256mm 16v brakes?

Featured Replies

had a search and googled it, i just want to know if there's any 13" rims that will fit over 6n 16v 256mm front brakes?

i was originally going to go for 14's on my arosa project budget dog but have come up againt a problem-

i know the tyres are too big on the bbs (185/60/14's) but i want to get closer to the floor.

if not then i'm after a set of late mk2 early mk3 golf 14" 4 stud rims without rubbers

Roll your arches and change tyres, maybe higher offset wheels and you could get loads of clearance

i'm looking for a smaller overall diameter - 13's on 175/50's so i can get closer to the deck. these wheels are going anyway.

i have 185 55 r14's and can wind the coilies all the way down with no problems, is the ibiza clearance not the same as the polo?

^^^ hes asking about brakes clearance.

You'd need a pretty mental offset to clear 256s with 13s, you'd maybe be best to get some 165/55-14s on there, at least they are pretty narrow so perhaps less chance of causing contact issues.

Its an arosa.

I know but if he clears the arches with 14s then he doesn't need 13s. I reckon if he does what I said and 165/55s like tobyk says then he'll be able to all but bottom out.

but 165/55/14's are still a far bit taller than a 175/50/13, it's not completely the arch issue that bothers me just the height from the ground.

Ronal Racings, Compotmotive Turbos and BBS E32s all fit over 256mm setups!

right, my search for some 'nice' 14" steels hasn't gone well, and although the above wheels are stunning i'm not looking to spend alot really. are there any more budget options or steels that'll fit?

Thanks.

i know we're searching for the same type of steelies mate, came across these on the bay....

might be worth messaging the seller to see if they've got a full set, in the ad it says that postage will be the same for a full set, so it might be worth trying!

thanks bud, i've just fitted 16v front hubs/ brakes, brand new discs / gen vw wheel bearings but seriously considering selling them to run 13's now.

now i could go another 20-30mm drop in the following pics but as you'll see i need more wheels before i do that

difference between 185/55/14 and 175/50/13 wheel + tyre is;

14's diameter is - 559.1mm

13's diameter is - 505.2mm

So with a 13 inch wheel i can be ~ 27mm closer to the floor and get ~ 27mm extra arch clearence which mean a potential of 54mm extra lowering!

any of the "motorsport" type 13" wheels will clear 256s. Compomotive etc.

on my polo 6n I've got 16v brakes on as its a glx. and I've got 13's on no problem , there mk1 golf steels that have been banded to 8.5" wide and 7.5" wide, both front and back have got 165/55/13.

oh and no more coils on the coilys left :) 120mm on 13's is the way to go .

rob

don't think glx have valver brakes...

As far as I'm aware it was more of a trim level.

my old glx had solid 239's iirc.

Olly

GLXs came with 239s standard, but I think they may have actually been vented. Either way, 239s.

  • Author

mine were definately solid, i thought it was shocking as my mums 1.0 had vented!

Olly

Haha, typical VW parts bin mix up?

they were them brakes for life from kwik fit so i checked with vw thinking kwik fit had ballsed up as usual but apparently not.
