Featured Replies

Just went to the petrol station to fill up and there was a cop car there whilst they were in the middle of arresting somebody for something........

Anyway, whilst I had my back to them filling up, a copper came over and started feeling up my car, specifally the reg plate..........

Ok, so they'e the wrong font and there German plates, but he asked me if they were metal or plastic..................

I said; "I dunno mate, they were on it when I bought it" 8-)

He said; your ok, they're plastic................

If I were a cop, there pressed, youve got a "D", its the wrong font and you should have a manufacturer printed at the bottom. I think the material would be the last thing to consider!

I know.......... thats what I thought ?????????????

He suggesting metal ones are illegal?

you was lucky mate!!

theres a thing about metal plates being dangerous if u run someone over.. old cars run them so a tuff one to call? all newer pressed plates are ali so not very strong so i would say the plastic ones are more dangerous. worth googlin it if u want more info.

suprised u didnt get pulled on the font and D symbol. £30 fine and 3 points for each plate.

any new plates must have the makers mark on but if made awhile back it wont.

david.

Sounds like you got lucky mate

Nah, that isn't right.

It used to just be a £30 fine for incorrectly displayed plates, that fine has now gone upto £60, they are thinking of applying points for illegal plates. Basically if you get done for 2 pressed plates which arn't UK legal, you'll get a £120 fine, and get told to switch the plate over. They might ask you to take it to an MOT station to get a rectification notice, then produce it at a police station.

So the obvious solution is to carry a set of plastic plates with you as well?

Not always. in some cases they let you change them others will fine you anyway.

but the new plate rules are very clear.

Must have makers mark and postcode, uk font or uk legal equivalent, Only Scotland/Wales/Uk/Euro bands should be displayed (no playboy/VW/fastcar bands)

But even I'm confused over why he thought that plastic ones were legal and metal ones not?

The D band alone should have got you fined, so youve been lucky TBH.

tbh, it was a lucky find for the feds........

The car is only used for my trips to and from work (10 mile trip, all A & B Roads - Mostly Farm roads etc) The thing only ever goes near a camera on its way to the Petrol Station and for MOT's etc ;) (and occasional trip to a VW show)

Ahh lucky boy lol.

I've been pulled 3times for mine, but as i always made sure to keep the plastic ones in the boot with some sort of numberplate adhesive, i just said I'm in the process of getting them changed would u like me to stick the legal one on top.

Each time i had the same answer, which was no theyll prob fall off, jut do it when u get back :)

:-)

Font's wrong, bands wrong, no makers mark or British Standards mark - should have fined you.
