Looking to change to wilwood brakes on the front. Cant remember the name of the kit that suited the polos?

They did a light weight kit that was 239 vented and i cant remember. Anyone also had any experience with Wilwood calipers?

Probably the Midilite caliper. Look for Mk1 Golf fitments.

Do they bolt up to the original hub? I have it on good authority that the mk1 golf hub will fit, but i am yet to try it myself. Reason being that you can scrap the front strut setup if you have a subframe and use proper bolt in struts with steering arms welded on... but thats besides the point.

If they do fit the original hubs then i may look at getting some.

What width kit was is hayesey if you dont mind me asking?

Mk1 golf calipers fit polo struts, as do mk2 gti 8v vwII calipers, which are also fitted to the G40 models. in an ideal world polo struts would indeed be replaced by golfie hubs, but getting the steering arms to fit by making plates and welding them to the shock is the main hurdle.

yes the mk1 golf kit has the same caliper bracket spacing as a polo so the kit fits, although you do need to remove small amounts of metal from the hub housing, noithing major though, just a couple of tickles with the grinder.

this doesnt allow you to fit golf struts though, the main issue is that the steering arms on a golf are in a totally different location to a polo. Not sure I like the sound of trying to weld to a shock absorber body.

which subframe do you mean? both the pps and ppp ones retain the original bottom arm and standard ball joint, you'd need to make something up to be able to fit a golf ball joint.

I'm just having a play with a few ideas. If you remember the mk3 AFH track car being built by dogwood on Clubgti.... I was chatting to him and his original setup used mk1 golf hubs and struts, with the seering arms cut off of the strut and welded on to his choice of "off the shelf" mk1 coilovers so it was just a thought. I think this had him running a wider track too. But thinking about it, with the choice of polo coilover available now, its not really worth the ballache other than for the ease of removing either the hub or strut seperately.
