Ford Fanboys Hating on VW

Featured Replies

I hate that forum, i just signed up and wrote a massive post, hit the post reply button and it wiped it clean :lol: bastard

I was saying something along the lines of...

People saying its dangerous having certain mods (ghey streched tyres and tarmac scraping chassis lowness etc) and then they start preaching about having high performance mods, on road cars  lats time i checked, driving fast on pulic roads is pretty damn dangerous aswell isnt it?

*awaits comments about doing those performance mods purely for track/drag strip use* which anyone who isnt naive will know is utter bollox :-) (on the road legal cars i mean)

Epic win at FoleE's hoooge picture post! I'm sorry but how can anyone say that those clapped out cossie's look nicer than all thoses cars posted. It's lunacy it really is, and as for the guy that said "why would anyone make a club for polos" erm excuse me, why would anyone make a club for clapped out old shit heaps driven by wife-beating old men, no sweeping generalisation meant ;)

;)
Providing you realise you have far less grip than you should have, and drive accordingly (like you would in the wet), it shouldnt kill anyone, its fairly predictable at least, far better than the wrong shocks anyway!

Still stupid though, just fit the right size tyres and they last longer, and give you more grip.

That's hardly true though mate.. as people with stretch run wider wheels than standard anyway. Usually the tyre width / contact patch is actually the same as standard wheels (or near as makes no difference). The difference is that wider wheels are being used, but there is still enough of a contact patch to provide the right amount of grip for the general spec / weight of the car. Maybe you have an issue with the stresses on the tyre walls / structure which would be a fair argument I suppose, but also bear in mind that drifters run stretched tyres..

I just wanted to point that out, and am trying to generally keep out of the rest of this argument as it's pretty gay and pointless! Everything else in this thread is just a conflict in personal opinions and will never be solved until the more mature parties agree to disagree and respect the other side's decision!

Then everyone can carry on as normal, enjoying doing what they like telling people they do so much!

A bit of rival banter is cool and all that, but this TAKES THE FUCKING PISS!

Id rather drive a screwdriver into my japs eye than drive some of the "euro" shit posted in that thread

Some look great, but there are a few pics that will only reinforce their argument. Plus they're performance monkeys, and even the stunners wont impress the sort of person who drives a Sierra Cosworth.

Wasn't really trying to impress them as such...more make their skin crawl

its also worth noting VW own bugatti, audi, lambo and bentley

so thats.....

bugatti veyron

audi r8 v10

audi rs4

audi rs6

lambo gallardo

lambo murciealago

bentley flying spur

bentley continental GT

etc etc etc

screw ford and 'affordable' performance cars. VAG are the dons  lol

a ford would win in a race

but its VW its gotta be low n slow!!

Think i should just stick to the aircooled!

my mate is on that forum as he owns a mk3 escort with a 2.0 zetec engine, and even he reckons that forums gone downhill, all they do is argue etc, and its doing my head in to watch this forum do it. ffs grow up you keyboard warriors, get out of the house and have some fun, you'll have plenty of time to moan when your dead.

I'm bored with the performance issue. This is a club for Polo owners,i should think clubmatiz have a more speed orientated population.

My MK2 won me over when it was a 1.3 and my previous car was a 3yo Fiat Seicento Sporting which was a right laugh. I'm interested in what slow Fords they have to be passionate about..

according to the pf forum there are no slow fords, they all have over 600bhp as standard.

Do these lads need big bhp figures to make up for their small IQ levels? All they come out with is 'it's dangerous, your a idiot', i've not seen one valid argumeant for why its dangerous yet. They just seem like pissed off little kids angery at the world, maybe because even after chucking thousands of pounds at a car that costs thousands of pounds, they still get their asses handed to them by almost standard jap cars that cost a third of what they have spent?

what performance engine have ford actually produced?

for me a mate who had just sold his high 12's anti lag cossie summed it up when he said 'face it ford have never got a turbo engine right!'

he and his brother had very high spec saph cossies and both were sick of them sat in the garage awaiting yet another rebuild so sold up, one bought an evo and the other an s3.

how many ford turbo's have done over 100k without an engine or turbo replacement - i've heard of 20vt's making over 200k on stock set up.

the best turbo lump a ford has is from a volvo!

the whole arguement is getting out of hand and in most parts bordering on pathetic, i haven't read the past few pages but do they not understand volks wagen ~ peoples car never intended to be involved in any motorsport!

i don't expect any answers just a morning rant.

Olly

Lol this thread is epic. I have a fiesta, which I fucking love and my Mrs has a polo which I also love. We go to Ford shows, we go to Dub shows, we go to hotrod shows etc. End of the day, we're all car lovers. Forget about all the politics and cock measuring bullshit.

Come on people, turn off the computer, take a deep breath, get in your car and go for a drive.

Breathe out tension, breathe in peace!

Grip from a tyre comes from the structure of the tyre not just the size of the contact patch, the moment you lean the walls of the tyre over massively you reduce grip, its people not even understanding the very basics of how a tyre works or how suspension works who then start doing this sort of thing that is the reason this country needs TUV approval for modifications, obviously you at least acknowledge it can be an issue, but many kids dont, likewise with they think that cause they are on coilovers its safe to run 120mm lower than standard, but they know NOTHING about how this effects the geometry of their car!

The geometry on your car is designed to work with the lower wishbone going from droop towards level as the suspension compresses, as it does so the interaction between this and the steering arm alters the angle that the wheel sits at (bump steer) but it does so by only a small amount despite the unequal height (not ideal) of the wishbone and the toe control arm, when you lower the car too much, instead of the bottom wishbone being in droop and getting longer as it moves towards flat, it is already flat, or worse still pointing upwards, so as your suspension compresses instead of the arm getting longer, it gets shorter, this massively exagerates bump steer, if you change the offset of your wheels then you will also alter the scrub radius of your car and will effect the ackerman angles too.

I'm a dubber through and through but this man taslks sense. It's all very well saying you drive sloly because you know your car handles like poop but that's not going to help when you are forced into an emergency swerve and instead of avoiding the obsticle you understeer straight into it.

Nick

and increasing the power going through the front wheels will increase tourque steer, so all tuned RS turbo's are dangerous.

Would you care to explaine how stretched tires are any more dangerous than the low profile tires that have so little tire wall the look like rubber bands?

Oh and i'm writing this from beyond the grave because bump steer killed me.

Yawwwn, I think this is enough back and forth about Fords, tbh we're only becoming as sad as them, after all, this forum is for Polos not Golfs or Fords haha c'mon guys we've had our fun. I call thread lock.

As the person above mentions, how your car handles and reacts in normal driving isnt normally the problem as you can allow for that, its when someone forces you into an emergency manouvre it will bite you, if you swerve to avoid someone in an RS Turbo you dont do so at full boost.

You really are sounding like a complete idiot if you cant even grasp the basics

Would you care to explaine how stretched tires are any more dangerous than the low profile tires that have so little tire wall the look like rubber bands?

Because the walls are designed to be vertical not leaned over and they transmit loads differently as a result

All you emo wallys seem to want to die anyway, so its not a problem to you I'm sure, lol

why are my 2 posts getting ignored.....are you guys enjoying this?

good call

I don't want to argue with other dubbers but this really winds me up. Low profile tyres are designed to work correctly. Stretch tyres are fitted so that the sidewalls are deformed and no longer do the job they are designed to do. The more you stretch the worse they are.

I often see pics and ranting posts along the lines of "If it's so lethal why do race cars and drifters run stretch" which is a lame arguement. Drifters run stretch to lose traction as that's what drifting is all about. Race cars use race tyres. These tyres are very different in their core design to road tyres and have incredibly stiff sidewalls. You try stretching an R888 which isn't even a full race tyre and see how you get on, them buggers have sidewalls that are made of granite!

I stepped back from forums for months because of small-minded, petty and argumentative keyboard warriors... I have just started to get into the forums again as I have a new car to mod - and I'll do it the way that I want and stuff anyone else and what they think - just as long as it is legal and safe who really cares what anyone else thinks, we don't mod our cars because the guy next door might like it... I have 3 children that I take to/from school in my car so there is no way I'd EVER mod it to the point of being dangerous... why do people tar us all with the same brush?! I was a Ford owner for years but "saw the light" when I met my husband and he had a really cool 1963 ragtop beetle and have been a vw lover since.

Now... whilst everyone has their own opinion (and I respect that and think others should too) the narrow-minded member on that thread that called all vw lovers a bunch of "hitler loving hippies" was taking it one step too far and I am beyond words to be able to express my disgust at that particular comment...

They are as wrapped up in their own badge as we are with our vw's.... it's a real shame that people from different "scenes" will never see eye to eye but maybe we should just accept the old phrase "each to their own"...

FACT......and by theory that should be the end of this thread.... :ninja:

Thanks for that chaps, if this thread has been good for one thing it is the supply of a bit of good technical knowledge.. validated by both sides

What dub-diva said up there makes me want get my bug back on the road, so I can show some other girls 'the light' ;)
