I have a similar problem. Have a look at the wires within the rubber casing between the door and chassis. It's likely there's a broken/damaged wire in there. You can peel back the rubber without damaging it, although it is a little fiddly!

Having said that, I can't spot any broken wires in mine, therefore my next step is to remove the door card and check the remaining wiring.

it is possible that moisture has got into the switch.

although, you can try giving this a go:

-insert key into drivers dor, lock and hold in place for ten seconds,

-then unlock and hold for ten seconds, windows should open

-hold both drivers side switches in the open position

-then in the closed position

-repeat on passengers side.

if this fails, then you would have to remove the doors panels and have a look at the wiring / mechanism.

hope this helps

Hello mate, i'm having the exact same problem - only my electric mirrors and central locking switch aren't doing anything either - did the auto electrician find what was wrong with your motor?

My driver side window switches stopped working the other day, they've been fine up until then. My passenger side window switch is still working as it should. The passenger switch on the driver's side... you can still hear the motor for that one, but can't hear a motor for the driver window at all. Fuses look fine, and wires do too.

I'm going to try what has been mentioned above, take off the door card, and if i fail will speak to an expert :D

right sorry for not replying... u will have to go to VW them selves for 2 new switches for the drivers side part number V6X0 959 855 B0 1C 020F03C SWITCH at £17.28 each.. this should hopefully cure the problem if ure regulator aint dead but as mine was then i had to pay £30 for a 2nd hand one then there is the case of gettin the glass down to put the new regulator in... trick is undo the 6 torx screws on the motor and wind the armicher this will only wind the window down not up

if peeps get stuck i will dismantle mine tomoz and do a guide

Hey,

I've got exactly the same problem but the passenger side does not work. Seems to decide when it wants to work.

I took my door card off, looked aat the motor put it back together and it started working, than stops again after about 4 goes with it up and down.

so was wondering sound like the motor is on its way out?

cheers
