will do mate...

need to start a build thread for it and get some decent pics

what ever you do unless your planning on using filler dont use a hammer at any point other wise youll end up with a wavy outer wing

try and deburr it thew best you can and get plenty of sealer of some sort on them

na mate I'm just litterally taking the lip of, deburring it with a file and then putting shit loads of underseal on it lol

Why not just roll them?

pole + jack = good times

heat gun + rubber mallet and block on the other side to keep the shape + underseal = a lot less pikey.

"pikeytec" for those jobs that will get you outa a corner

lol

have tryed a bat but jus aint getting no were !

i aint heard the mallet and heating it before ?? how hard is that to do ?

it is pikey but when you aint got the money to roll them you gotta start doing stuff urself :ninja:

Personally I wouldn't bother as its more likely to cause you bother than anything else. If you roll the lips back on themselves and flare the arch outward you'll be much better off.

I'm gonna try what rich has said and if that dont work i am gona grind them still.....

i would hire a proper roller but people are wanting £50 for them for 3 days ?!

Don't just smash it round. My mate was showing me how to do it properly yesterday and didn't split the paint. Baring in mind how cold it is and didn't use a heat gun.

You need to tap the edge of the lip all the way around and keep going from one end to the other. Not beating the shit out of it tapping it round. It does take a while but its the best way to do it. My arches are all straight with no cracked paint and the wheels fit perfectly. If you use pikey methods they will end up looking pikey.

I only speak from experience about not cutting the lips off though. I was young and foolish when I did it and I regretted it afterwards.

when your tapping it did he have any reinforcement the otherside to stop the body bending or do it tap it that litley it doesnt need it ??

cheers for you are help gona do it this way..

the angle grinding was a last resort that i had got to cause i was so pissed off with not being able to put my wheels on at a decent height...

is it possible to roll & flare arches without damaging paint?

"is it possible to roll & flare arches without damaging paint?"

yeh if you use a heat gun (or hairdryer) to heat the paint as you go then you shouldnt have a problem damaging the paint. although it does depend on what condition the arch is in and how old the paint is. I'm planning on rolling my rear arches as there tearing the shit outa my tyres over any kind of bumps. looking at flaring the fronts to if anyone has any tips?

The paint can still crack regardless of wether its heated or not.

Agreed depends how far you roll / flare / pull them out .

Be steady and slow when doing it and heat the area to make it more maluable.

Diffrent cars are difffrent though as the shapes of arches are diffrent .

The bloke that came to do my Mk2 before i got my new arches said Mk4 polo's are easier due to a larger arch therfore more metal that is slightly looser fitting iff you must .

I personally wouldnt attempt the hammer method unless you really take your time asell as this could deform the shape fo the arch to a point of no return .

Stevie

this is hammer and no heat gun. not even a mallet :) paint cracked but i sanded it back and sprayed over it.

the chap above was right, start at one end and be prepared for a long arm aching slog.

luckily i took my time and didnt warp the arch (i had a little ding but i just tapped it back)

also flared them by a couple of mm on each side. pics are crap but better than nowt!
