great little cars i had one for 3 years it was like a

gokart handeling wise by the time id finnished with it ! just a bit

underpowerd the car could easyly take more power with ease

I'm a member of MX5oc. It's not bad. Not as good as Club Polo though! I'm also a member of Vectra C Forum of all things. Only place I could get some info on my car. They're well strict with posts!

I'm currently selling my old mk2 MX5 on e-bay. Unfortunately the engine's buggered. Shame as it was an awesome car to drive. People say they're girl's cars, but 140bhp rwd 6-speed light sportscar is a whole lotta fun! They're so responsive and every car magazine, Autocar, Whatcar, etc say that you have to own one before you die. It was completely different to drive than anything I've ever driven. Really pointy and responsive and the engine was amazing before it died. Driving position is great and the short shift close ration gearbox is wicked. I was exceptionally unlucky as they're well rated and normally a safe bet.

If you are after one, be careful of imports (mine was an import) as they're not rust proofed like the UK version (even though they're built in the same factory) so the Jap versions rust as hell unless it's been rust proofed since importing to the UK. Even the UK versions are prone to the sills rusting so check them out carefully. You can't see the rust standing up! The imports are also quite expensive to insure over the UK version, but it's quite cool to have all the Japanes instructions on the sun visors, etc + the Japanese version has a BOSE sound system and aircon. Why you would require aircon in a convertible is beyond me!

Still want another one despite the bad experience with this one. Go for a mk2 as they have the glass heated rear windscreen so no misty plastic one like the mk1. Go for 2000 onwards if you can as the engine has VVT. There are a million parts and mods available on MX5parts.co.uk.

I heard the 1.8 Mk1's are the ones to go for? I was considering getting an import, but I'll have a look for some UK ones thanks to your advice! Won't be in the market for one until late summer anyway!

been byast but go for a mk1 with the pop up headlights they do rust

but not as bad as other cars of that era plenty of after market parts

jackson raceing ,raceing beat,cusco,if you get one fit a front upper strut

brace doesnt half make a difference to the handeling and stiffens up the shell aswell

also some of the early mk1 had no rear chassis braces you can fit the braces of the later mk1

they help stiffen things up a bit as well . miss mine a bit now !

Biased... not at all! My mk2 already came with the front strut brace. Don't know if it was standard by then, but I'm pretty sure I could still feel the car 'flexing' in corners!

yep the mk2 came with it as standerd . the one on mine was a cusco one fully adjustble and it braced

the bulkhead aswell it didnt half make a difference to the way the car handeld

so have a couple of mates.

the guy with the red mk2 also has a grey mk2 golf with a vr6 engine.

and the guy with the red mk1 has a 99 passat tdi.

i recently bought a white 6n polo , 1.0L.

mx5nutz is best. If you keep it simple, they're excellent cars but there seemed to be a growing number of people on mx5nutz almost buying sh*t for the sake of it, just because it was "JDM" and then shouting about it. Awesome cars though. 1.6 up to and including 93 was meant to be the best (I've had 3 of them). The last one I sold had a set of BBS RS's on it - wish now I'd know how valuable they were otherwise they'd be on my GTi now :(
