i am painting the front part of the polo i own as it went rusty i have removed all the pain and sanded it down to a reasonably smooth surface using some 400 grit wet n dry starting with 180 n working up theres , i have filled any holes using fibreglass filler and wire mesh and then sanded them down its not of major importance how this panel looks i dont want show quality I'm just adfter a panel that doesnt look like its all rusty.

Sanding in some places was impossible so i have just done the best i possibly can but some paint has been left on but only in the places where it wont be seen behind the head lights any painleft i have scotch brighted .

just wondering what primer to use now do i use etch primer then normal primer or filler primer then normal primer as theres still some dimples and sanding marks in it where it wasnt possible to sand down completley.

Just wondering what sort of primer to use ? (the cars white so obviously a white primer will need to be used but the filler primer in halfords is yellow) any prep needs doing before priming ? oh and any tips on doing it out in my garage when the weather is this cold ! needs to be done asap so i can get the car back running havnt got time to wait for english weather !!

Also where can i get some compund that i rub on the final top coat is it cutting compund ? and does any one know if alpine white needs laquer?

etch primer should keep rust away, use normal grey primer too if the panel wont be seen. if you use filler primer, you would probably need to flatten it before painting and i dont think you will need any lacquer unless the paint is water based. get 2 pack if you can , much easier to use and dries faster.

Etch primer rub it down with a scotchbrite pad, use some high build primer if u can get hold of it, if not use halfords filler primer rubbish and have to build it up alot then flatten that down with some wet n dry, then colour depending on what type of paint u got use lacquer, if its a direct gloss no need to use lacquer but if its a COB use lacquer

rite ok well I've goot halfords white primer and some alpine white paint so the best thing to do is take the primer back get some etch primer then use some buil primer. wheres a decent place to get some paint its got to be in a can as i dont have a compressor or any power in my garage I'm also after some cutting coumpund to shine up the final layer ?? not sure what cob is either!! but is helpful thanks

halfords have some upol high build primer which is ok, u wanna get yaself some g3 compound, and cob is clear over base which is lacquer over basecoat
