haven't got any of them now mate,

Left my AAU on my drive whilst i was making a cup of tea, 5 minutes tops.

Come back out to find a fucking pikey theiving **** driving off down the road in the typical collapsed out flat back van.

He took the engine, and my old mans step ladders (which were fucked tbh)

My rocco was blocked in so couldnt drive after them and i was the only person in the house.

Started at 8.30 Saturday morning, Me and the old man began getting the car into position to lift the engine in.

Id also like to thank 01mlacey for the flywheel bolts, could have done all this without the pronto postage, cheers mate.

Firstly, cleaned off 20 or so years of road grime from the lower half of the inner wings and ARB mounts...

Before.

During.

And after.

Also picked up my brand new drive-shaft flange bolts as many of the old ones had to be ground off with a 2mm disk.

Me and my old man then began dropping in the engine, Plan of action was to do just that. Pick the thing up and drop it in.

Didn't go too bad to be honest, the offside mount took some paint off my lovely clean bay though :-(

Some of you may have noticed before (wish i had) that the cam belt hasn't been put on yet, this wouldn't be a problem if I hadn't fitted the alternator belt pulley and plastic covering , which you have to pretty much take then engine out or drop it on the floor to take back off, So out came the hydraulic jack again...

Now onto the cylinder head, Pretty much the party piece of this build as I've put a lot of time into it.

Because it's originally from a 1988 mk2 polo, its a hydraulic tappet mechanical fuel pump head so i had to make a blanking plate for the hole...

Next weekends updates include front lower braces, hopefully GT cam and G40 manifold if toby pulls his finger out.

Also gonna try and get it fired up, will have no exhaust on though :p

Once again its looking good dude :) I've booked the back half of this week off to start getting mine done but i still need so many bits :( Weber 40's are beginning to become a pain! haha. I also need to do far too much cleaning :p When you hoping to be on the road?

As quick as possible really.

I get one day a week on it, but everything that can wait I.e. wheels, arches, interior, ICE and paint is happening when its back on the road.

Still need to sort the engine, brakes , legal tyres and wheels and put the front of the car back on.

So tbh , not too long.

I know how that feels! if the weather is nice, I'm out climbing on that one day as well!

Not much left then :) cant wait to see this thing running dude!

Yeah, its pretty far away :-(

Suppose it gives me time to get it done.

  • 2 weeks later...

Any more updates mate, what will be the final engine spec, were you not going GT?

This is pretty much GT spec now, Fitting a 3f bottom end would be pointless just for a slight increase in C/R.

Think i might build up another engine for next year whilst this is on the road.

Need to sell the rocco to fund it though :ninja:
