Mk2f Coupe, Under Its Second Restoration!

Featured Replies

Need more people doing things like this TBH, GT engine conversions are just a lazy way out. much more fun to build something like this and if it gets to 80+ bhp then it may start changing peoples minds and make them tune there SPI's

well impressed with this and i'm interested to see how it goes but i really don't think it will crack standard gt power. and as for doing a gt is taking the lazy way out i think thats a bit silly to say because you could have done all this to a gt and got loads more power. he's only doing this to enter 1 litre rallys which sounds like a right laugh. but if you wern't doin that rally, whhy wouldn't you use a gt block instead or abd, aee?

dude you should perhaps look at making the car alot lighter and a shorter ratio box

Good work fella! Polishing stuffs a chore, good effort! I always get half way in and wish i hadn't bothered starting!

What sort of maching did you use to make that flanged plate? Shiney :unibrow:

Yep it is, i dont mind it though, makes me feel really good after iv done it , and you can see the difference in the pics.

I first used the CNC miller to do the 4 mounting holes and the big centre bore, and then moved onto a convectional cente lathe to do the flange and the outside profile.

Cheers for the comment mate

I have no idea how much power its going to make, I'm not really that bothered as long as its worth the effort I'm putting in.

Also cheers for the good comment , it makes a real difference :smirk:

Well iv got no idea about power mate, none at all. If its close to a GT ill be delighted , It will have alot of things thats going to be better than a GT though TBH. As for gearbox , I'm sticking with the 4 speed thats in it, its a just had a re-con and its very small ratio so its perfect for the track, i think gears 1-3 are the same as the GT and 4 being inbetween 4-5 on a GT box if you get me :?.

Cheers for the good comment though pal, Keeps me going!

for some reason i i kept saying need instead of and :D

neither can i.

Got more updates soon.

Custom MDF and leather door cards

Body bits

Interior.

bet this is gonna be a hoot to drive. Had planned to run a similar setup on my old mk2 square, but a gt came up cheap, so i never got round to doing it.

Looking forward to seing how much torque this'll produce, any plans to use a ram pipe on the end of the carb?

i think I'm using the airbox from a GT, not wasting my time with a K&N.

Then run maybe two cold air feeds to the GT box.

All custom like :smirk:

As for being a "hoot" to drive, iv got no idea.

How come you think it will be?

Max

used to have a couple of minis, they were both great fun, the induction noise from su's is just ace, even if its no faster, the sound will more than make up for it.

^Thats your Mad Max Polo right there.

I'm impressed, My mates got a Triumph Herald and it's got a lovely sound. The only thing I would say is where's the other carb? lol.

These were the carbs that were derived from the WWII Merlin engine I believe.
