Alright joe,

Firstly i would make sure the bottom end your using is in good working order, annoyingly i've just found out that i've got very low compression on cylinder number 4, and the oil pump is on its way out, so my new bottom end is gonna be going on faster than i thought.

If your bottom end is worth keeping, then i would definitely get rid of the pierburg carburetor and source a DMTR or DMTL, preferably a DMTL.

I would either go with a newman 268* or a GT camshaft. The GT item will be very good for the money, but the high lift cams are always going to give you more peak power when there set up correctly, be prepared to pay around £200 though!

Don't bother with the GK inlet manifold, just stick with the MH part.

The 4-2-1 exhaust manifold is always going to help, and looks the part!

ah thats great mate, appreciate the advice.

do both the newman and the gt cam require a electronic fuel pump?

Its been a long time!

I've took this off the road again (for the winter) to do a number of things, mainly to get this ABD in there (finally) and to smarten the bay up. Its gonna be having a thorough clean and degrease, and abit of smoothing maybe. Also a few braces here and there.

Gave her a clean before tooking her up!

Also, i'm in the process of building my self up a new head for the ABD bottom end. Few pics....

Has had the usual skim, ultrasonic clean then a rebuild.

Also, i've made myself a batch of vernier camshaft pulleys (sure you've all seen them) Still have 7 for sale!

And then started stripping down the engine (selling the old MH head and bottom end, carb and inlet manifold)

Now the cars off the road, i'm trying to find a suitable lock-up/garage to store it in and work on it throught the winter, which is proving difficult. Either is far too pricey or not suitable :doubt:

My first plans were to drop the ABD in, with a fully re-built, skimmed head, pretty much brand new double choke weber 28/36 DCD (ususally used on old school fords, mk1 escort GT's etc), GT gear box etc.

However, plans have changed. I've sourced a coulple of 32mm solex DIS's. To you who don't know what that is, its the carburetor used on the RGTT (renault GT Turbo),

The plan is to build up a supercharged engine(using a G40 or eaton M45).

I've opted for the carburetor aproach as that's where all my experience is, and it get me all excited :unibrow:

Its going to be blowthrough if i'm using the DIS obviously, basically;

Charger ---> cooler ---> Carb ---> head

But i'm also researching into a drawthrough set-up, which would let me use my original weber, as the carb would not see +ve pressure, however to me the set-up sounds messy and in-efficient, it would have to be;

Carb ---> charger ---> cooler ---> head

To me, it appears that this set-up may cause poor fuel atomization with the carb being so far away from the head, its a long way to travel and may require a richer mixture throughout.

Has anyone who has experience with this sort of thing got any pointers or advice? I am personally opting for the first set-up...

8-):ninja:

toby style update.

Really excited to see this running with the new engine.

This and renegades are my favorite threads at the moment, just saying, no homo!

R5 GTT carb... nlooks very nice too mate with its stainless bolts. Obv easy access to them form work :lol:

Not a toby style update as this atleast proves you've done something :lol:

No benny boy, that ain't no R5GTT carb (solex DIS 32 iirc)

Its a 28/36mm weber DCD, probably the best double choke-downdraught weber that can be made to fit on a standard inlet manifold (i have had to completely butcher an MH inlet manifold just to get the inlet gap big enough)

This is gonna be on the ABD and ill be using it untill i've built up the second ABD and charger.

Cheers mate!

Means alot!

Because driving a standard GT is boring :lol:

And i'm gonna take my time rebuilding this turbo carb and engine, plus i need to save up for a charger and rebuild it. Fab all the custom stuff up, machine all the parts i need.

Also need to design the fucking thing lol!

Looks like its going on something with not enough valves? :p

Lol, shut it.

Is it going to fit in? it looks massive? ............... :)

  • Author

Its not that big at all to be honest, no bigger than a DMTL/R , its just this type of manifold are pretty small.
