Lol, it is pretty hard to see what it is to be fair.

But its the trumpet mount for the webber carburetor,

Its not finished yet, i need to machine off the base so the pockets become holes!

Gotta be some sort of adapter plate..

And yeah the scuttle is going, or should i say gone. Got a shit load welding/fillering to do now though!

Going for a fully smoothed bay then i guess..

you going to do away with the heather matrix and fan unit? and mount the fuse box etc behind the dash and hide all the wiring

Not going for a fully smoothed bay, just semi-smooth, and tidied up etc.

Heater matrix is staying put, don't know about the fuse box to be honest!

Going to be fully stitch welding the seems, then smoothing everything off.

Designing my own air intake for this, the weber DCD.

I've made a first attempt at it, but its not right. It has however made me think of a much better, neater way of building it. A few pics;

This was CNC rout'd out, the plan was to cut out a top, front and back for it, then TIG weld it on. But i wasn't 100% happy with its volume and size.

So another one will be designed and cut out tomorrow, i also need to turn the trumpets that will be press fitted into the base plate (shown a few posts above), You can also just about see it under the airbox in the above pictures.

Having just ordered a new TIG welder, which should be arriving some time next week, i can't get on with sorting out the engine bay this weekend, instead i'll be MIG welding up a 4 castor dolley to put under the front of the car whilst i take off the front suspension for re-furb.

I've also decided that this is going to be pretty much a road legal track/race car, purpose built to be as light and as quick as the engine and chassis will allow, i don't want to go to all this trouble and expense to only get it out a few times a year. The engine bay will also reflect this, no "chinsy" chrome or over smoothing.

Just want to get stuck in now 8-)

Have done a bit of work this week!

Firstly, the TIG welder from r-tech turned up 8-)

Great peice of kit, much better than the clarke stuff which is just a DC MMA welder with a scratch start TIG torch.

Also got the head back from "sheffield engine services", highly rate these guys, quick turn around and a good bunch of lads...

New guides and valves, re-cut seats etc, £120!!!!

Started work on the badly designed ports/throats straight away....

Orignally there is a medium sized incursion into port, just next to where to spark plugs screw in, this was the first to go...

The pictures make it look terrible :lol: , but with a head of this design, its actually recommend to keep the surface finish on the ports quite rough, to aid in fuel atomization and mixture.

I then went onto smooth out the rest of the casting deformations, will get pics ASAP.

Whilst the work was been carried out on the ports, i had the CNC cutting out the net templates of my airbox, few pictures...

they need the sides bending to form the final shape, then the seams welding....

Well, you want the plenum to taper down and decrease in volume towards the carburettor intake so as to keep the gas velocity up!

That's what I thought too, but then also heard the total opposite, that you want the bigger volume to surround the intake to the throttles, ill just have to make sure I make two of them and test both theorys! :badgrin:

That's currently what I'm doing and the conclusion that I've come up with from flow results is that if you have a centrally mounted intake then make it fookin massive, but if its mounted at one end its good to have taper :-)

I'd love to do a study on that! In that case, ill cut the holes for the carb intake on the opposite side, same with the intake holes.

Did you do any work on the volume, shape and position of intake then?
