I'll update with pics as soon as i can, 8-)

Lost my phone on friday night, down town in sheffield :-( , So have no way of taking photos when I'm on my own.

  • 1 month later...

I'm sure there's some progress on this, Max?

^There must be, I was thinking about this the other day.

  • 2 weeks later...

Selling the carb, whats up?

  • Author

Long time now speak!

Thats not the carb from this engine, it was from another project...

Should have quite a lot to update on soon, but i've been putting a lot of effort in my daily GT, wanted it looking good for the shows as i doubt this will be sorted for the summer!

Hows yours coming along?

Ahh thats good to know man, I thought you had had fully given up, bought a corsa or something...

Its alright suppose, just keeping it clean and addressing things as and when if you get me, I dont have the time or money at the moment to do what I want, hopefully that will change soon.

Look forward to seeing updates on this!!

Nah lol, not yet! Most of the work i've still got to do is bodywork/paintowork.

The engine bay needs more welding and fillering etc which is gonna take pretty long. Then i need to get busy cutting out brace mounts on my CNC, to weld in before i can paint it.

A few pictures of whats going on.

Note the "rolling frame" underneath the front of the car which allows me to roll the car about whilst theres no wheels/suspension components...

Do i remove the very troublesome, hard to fit subframe and ARB to have them powdercoated?

Or leave them as they are, slightly rusty and dirty?

Hmmmm...

stupid question. as youll kick yourself for not doing it when the rest of the car looks mint.

I'd definately do it now rather than later!

Do it do it do it

Fuck lol, more to do then!

Problem though, the rolling dolley that i made locates onto the subframe!

Didn't think that one throUgh did you ;p

I would do some research into the effects of intake trumpets when using an airbox.

I may have misunderstood how your plenum works so can you stick up some more pictures please.

Carbs are all sorts of wizardry however if you taper down the airbox over orifice you will end up with unbalanced flow down the two venturis. Eg the velocity of air flow increases (towards and over the first orifice) to the point where there is not a great enough pressure differential to cause the air to 'turn 90 degrees' and go down the first inlet.

Problem is exacerbated when feeding a 4 cylinder (4 intake runners) from the side as cyclinder 1 tends to run rich and cylinder 4 leans out.

Scout ebay for a book called "Internal combustion engine fundamentals" by John B. Heywood. Slightly more maths based that some text books but it will give you all the formula needed to work out volume etc. If you have already done all the above then I will get back in my box

The design is for the airbox is pretty crude to be honest, its just an enclosure around the trumpets at best, made to create an air tight seal around them which is then fed by two air ducts from the front of the car.

The small amount of research i did on airbox design was that if airflow into the box is un-restricted (which it is) , then volume isn't massively important, the distance from the edge of the trumpets to the inside faces wants to be 1.5 times the trumpet diameter too (which it is) everything else i found would be impossible to do with the space i've got under the bonnet.

When its on the road, proper testing will begin with all sorts of components :-D

Since i'll be taking off the subby and ARB for a refurbish now, thought i'd improve it somewhat, so I'm currently working on a custom design, using the PPP stage 2 as framework to build on, utilizing the ARB still, but building up some 3 point wishbones instead of the 2 point TCA's.

I'm gonna be using something similar to a knuckle joint, but want something a bit more substantial, anyone got any ideas?

3 point i assume you mean an a-frame type, two mounts to frame one to knuckle?

Yeah kinda. Will be experimenting with the original TCA at first, so i'll be more than likely modifying that to accept another arm going to the subframe.
