Totally do a 1.0,

Its got such a small stroke with it being over-sqaure, it would rev like a fucking nutter!

Bike carbs or webers, high lift cam and a GT box?

You wont be able to get the fire wall out with the engine in dude.

YEEEEEEE! I've got a G40 box here but the non ATV version but i want a close ratio GT box i think. I cant get the selector shaft brass bush out of this G40 one :-( Given up on it tbh.

GT cam and some form of head or headwork not decided which yet and 400cc carbs or 600cc carbs with tiny arse needles e.t.c haha.

Yeah sounds gay....

Stop cluttering up Max's thread like Toby's lol

Definitely do the 1.05 on 400's

Think next year I'm gonna try and find a rare color mk2, with a early type mechanical headed 1.05 HZ etc and stick it on a set of 400's + high lift cam and GT box.

Would be fucking hilariously revvy, and awesome on fuel. Gonna go for black and gold, john player special yo!

How come you chopped so much off the bulkhead? - did you have rot issues? or is there a more intriguing and awesome answer ahead????

Oh and top job on the frame - i did one and my god it made working on the car so much easier - especially when the suspensions off and you can work around the chassis legs without doing the hurdles, your smoothing the legs aint you?

Your right, there is a much more awesome answer regarding the massive holes in the bulkhead.

Don't drink and modify cars :-(

From drilling out the spot welds to remove the scuttle panel, we ended up with them massive holes. I thought it would be a good idea to let my mate try out tig welding for the first time on the scuttle panel, and he melted most of it. So in the morning, i concluded that it would be easier to cut it all out and start again.

Yeah the frame is awesome. The problem is that the subframe is coming off tomorrow, so the frame is gonna have no where to locate on :-(

Gonna have to find somewhere. Maybe bolt a piece of box section in its place.

hahahaha - told you that tig welding is proper hard! good luck with the repair. so whats the crazy idea now? you going to smooth the recess in and blend it all in?

for your frame can you make something which can slot through the gap for the control arm- then use that bolt to attach it? its a good strong point.

Another question for you guys,

This will be getting a full respray, hopefully this month.

Shall i keep it tornado red, which will be easier to do and i've already got a bit of paint left over from last year.

Or

Give it a full colour change to black, the windows will be coming out etc so it will all be done properly. I've always wanted a black car so i can go for a "john player special" look, gold wheels and decals etc.

What say you?

John Player Special!

Say I.

Haha, its going motorsport themed though dude, so i want it all one colour.

BTCC cars are 2 colours mainly ;)

Motorsport themed mmmmm, aspiration!

yeah, black and gold

Gold engine bay?

  • Author

Hmmm, i know what you mean.

Still don't know wether to go black/gold or keep it red though :disgust:

  • Author

Lol, well your biased then if you hate red cars. Black/gold would look amazing, need to see what insurance says.

If i change the colour with the DVLA, should it not automatically change on the insurance etc?

  • Author

So will it technically not be a mod then? As it will change on the inusrance details as soon as i inform the DVLA?

this is what I'm wondering as i still haven't told them mines red!

  • Author

Yeah i'll ring the DVLA or something. Definetly doing it black now though 8-)

Scrap that idea :-(

To do it properly, id have to completley gut the car, headlining and everything,

Which is something i haven't got the space or time to do. Just gonna respray the exterior in a darker shade of tornado red. And then wait for when i own a black mk1/2/3 to do the JPS colour scheme on.

After all, tornado red is one of my favourite colours on these.

Tbf i dont blame you, alot of work in a PROPER respray, underside/arches i'd want to do the lot as it seems you do also.

Considered a candy apple red? Satins or matt colours would be much easier if you haven't sprayed before though mate :-)

Well, the underside inlcuding the arches are all going black anyway, but it was the interior thats put me off. Couldn't live with it being red inside and black on the outside.

I'm going for it with gloss tornado red. I've done a bit before and it didn't come out that bad at all. Obviously not perfect, but for what i want it will be fine!

I'd much rather have a crack at it myself, and know i've done it

Yeah, clear coat is going to be a bitch, too little and it feels rough. Too much and it runs :-(

runs can be fixed afterwards. too little, and well it cant. you have to start again.

  • Author

Ah right, so better to lay it on?

  • Author

Flat it down after paint and/or clear coat do you mean?
