Yeah the arms are getting lowred 3-4"

I'm in talks with phil on what shocks to go for, think it will be FK rears, modifed into colivers,

but still undecided about the fronts, they need to allow a decent drop, have a good ride quailty and perform well on the track LOL

Sounds good mate! You sticking with the ARB AND 250lb springs?

Yeah the Gaz shortend shocks should be more up to the job .. If you get some lowering top mounts you wont have to wide the coils down as much thus allowing the shock to have more give and dampen ..

In my mind anyway this is what i want to / going to do in near future :)

Mine are about 10mm from my coilover mount... not sure how far they are from wheel centre.... can measure if its something that would help? measure bottom balljoint to track rod end hole or something then you can work out wheres best for you?

Like i say, any measurements i can help with ask :-)

Yeah i was wondering that, but yours are different struts dude, so any measurements from yours might not be relavent to mine? :-(

The front of my breadvan is about -80mm, so i think it might be best to have a look whats going on there, and then see how much lowering of the arm i would benefit from.

One measurement i do need, is the outside DIA of the rear shocks!

Yeah i'm looking into the GAZ stuff, a lot of money though!

I'm wondering what would be best for the rears too, are yours just mk1 golf components then?

  • Author

Think i'm gonna go with mk1 golf rears. With my choice of springs.

Do the rears also have a sleave then that the insertable shocks fit into?

Wow, there's a lot of filler going in there! Can't wait to see it Max. Having that removable front panel will make things so much easier. It got quite ols having to climb in and out of my bay when I was filling every time i needed fresh filler

  • Author

Yeah there's gonna be a lot of filler lol.

Yeah, taking the front off was the best idea ever, its gonna become fully removeable anyway, mini style yo!

  • Author

That sounds good.

Are the TA technix like that then? A tube...

Wondering on how to do it, i only need the housing because its getting good quailty shocks and springs etc.

  • Author

Neeeeed to find some rear coilover struts then, so i can fit my own shocks and springs!

  • Author

Want them second hand though dude. Does anyone know what rates the TA's come with? I'm wanting around 150lb...

150 & 250? Might wanna stiffen the rear a smidge man

I've had a set of TA's in and have the spring rates in a spreadsheet at home, they were like 310ibs iirc. il get the results up tomorrow when I'm at home.

I've got a proper spring tester at work which is aerospace standard (frequently calibrated) so there accurate. if you ever wanted any testing then I'm more then happy to test them (il do anything in work hours lol)

310lbs on the front right? Thats stiff!

I'm trying 250's on the front with an ARB first, see how it goes. 150lbs on the back, with a ARB too.

I'm 275/165 as a starting point, so we're near each other. I'm running stock arb front and no arb rear though. I'll then add rear arb or stiffen rear springs as required to get better front end bite/turn in. Unsure of front rates if they'll go up or down but with the semi-slicks I'm in the right ball park.

German slalom racers use circa 650-700 on the front : o...flat much!

I'm going 225/170, but I want the comfort more so lol

Yours is purely track based right? I need to be able to live with it on the way to work etc so thats why i'm going for these springs, with the rear ARB to improve stability, saves having rock hard springs.

650-700! Fak! , might have to get some for the CP track day

depends on tyres and ARB setups and such

How would 500 lbs front springs be? compared to 310 lbs :ninja: ?

Fucking hard lol

depends on tyres and ARB setups and such

Stock front arb, 165/55/13's on a 7j and rover rear arb setup. rear suspension setup is preety much solid...... infact.... will whats app you.

Need to gets myself a rear ARB!

^^ same , I always forget to look for rovers when I'm at the breakers yard ..

But i've got a big block of nylon so i want to make some g-lader style blocks just so there's not so many soft bush's up the back .. I like stiff back ends :p slidey slide aha

TA shocks are hard on even a mk1 golf! Shit ride quality tbh overall, but cheep!

Only difference with the mk1 rear shocks is that they dont have an offset sleeve through the bush. It is shorter than the polo one, so you could make a spacer sleeve or use loads of washers if your feeling rough.

Aye, i'll not be using the TA springs or shocks, i just need the housing to fit it all to!, might end up making my own at this rate,

Bo!

Uwww nice, that was quick delivery! Buy soem Ta technics rear coilovers, keep the dampers for reference and i'll have the springs off you ;) haha

Tell me about it!, couldn't believe how quick they got here.

Why do you need the springs dude? And i'm looking for some second hand ones!
