The haynes manual disagree's :?

I beleive you know though will , seem to know your stuff pretty well

polo gt 3f engine has a higher compression ratio

that the aau engine has lower compression

The haynes manual disagree's :?

I beleive you know though will , seem to know your stuff pretty well

cheers  , haven't looked in haynes tbh, either way if it is 9.8:1 there isnt much of a difference anyway. I've got some gt and aau pistons lying about so if I'm bored one day ill find outwhat the exact cr is lol, ill keep you updated

euro car parts?

So have you got a silicon hose joining the manifold to the carb? Wont that collapse when the throttle is shut? As you will probably pull a bar of vacuum.

I reckon just adding the SU carb wont get you much power, might do if you jet it properly. GT cam is a must as long as the valves dont interfere with the pistons.

the micra is a nice daily? haha

nice work mate. going to be ready for germany?

Why would there be an interference mate?

When the GT is using its cam, it had flatter top pistons that say the AAU or the AAV so using one in an AAU will leave you more clearence.

Yeah the cam is a must thats why I'm using one and as for the carb, i think it will be a good point in the set-up, its pretty big so will have a good flow and it also came off a 998 mini which was running 80bhp which is pretty good.

Dont really know about the silicon hose, people use them for bike carbs and say there fine so ill have to wait and see mate.

Haha , nah mate, my mate binned the micra for me bloody hell, Long story.

Iv got a little arosa which is great fun.

really nice little car , will be getting some pics of it up soon.

As for germany, iv got no idea whats happening mate.

Max

nice work!

Really inspiring for me as I've just bought a 1l and woulod like to tune the engine till it blows up!

It's great that you can do machining stuff, it'll make the car so much more custom, which we need more of in this country!

Its just worth checking thats all, the GT cam gives nearly 2mm of extra lift or summot daft. I've never seen GT pistons but I dont know if they have that silly block on the top like the 1l does. Any person building a descent engine will check valve clearences no matter what cams going in, you never quite know and its good peace of mind.

As for the carb I cant say as I have a personal hatred for SU's, but thats just because all the ones I have had have been worn out and crap. I think they are easy to tune, but a bit flat.

euro car parts?

Max

yep ;)

UPDATES 12/04/2010

Nearly getting there now, Looking for a new rad and the 2 hoses that join it to the engine, Mine took a hefty left boot when i was trying to get it out lol.

Anyway, Iv finished the offside brakes now, Rears have had the axle spacers and new bolts , front have had new pads, carriers , calipers and gaurds re-furbed , Got some better pics of them here.

10042010415.jpg

10042010414.jpg

Along with New stainless bolts, Shiney!. Also put the first stub axle spacer on:

03042010371.jpg

03042010370.jpg

I then started on the pretty bad bit of rust that had accumulated whilst 'polly' had been stood. However i under estimated how bad it was :-(

03042010368.jpg

03042010369.jpg

As you can see , its spread right under the bump strip, and also gone right the way through.

03042010372.jpg

Not to worry :-) , i had to act fast , so i dropped tools on the brakes and engine , and set to sanding it all off.

03042010379.jpg

After this, id say there was about half a MM to a MM left of metal so had to get the filler out, Wasnt gonna bother cutting and welding anything yet, But ill have to if the filler doesnt hold.

After filling , sanding and priming.

03042010380.jpg

03042010381.jpg

As you can see still needs more sanding and shaping, and the primer has showed up the holes in the filler.

Soooo, more high build.

10042010417.jpg

So, i then left that to dry , sanded it all back down , and then got the dremmel out to neaten it all up. Looks so much better, pretty happy with the results. haven't got the pics yet though mind.

After id finished all the offside brakes , plus the repair work on the rust i was abit down hearted so wanted to do something abit more creative. After thinking of a few easy bits and bobs i could do , off i went to a trip to halfords and got some plastikote yellow tint glass spray, and a can off gloss black.

Masked up the area:

03042010375.jpg

Sprayed:

03042010377.jpg

03042010378.jpg

Finished:

03042010382.jpg

Think it will look pretty good with the next bit 8-) .

12042010424.jpg

12042010428.jpg

Yeaahh booii!

I'm also in two minds weather to use these or not, Probably end up selling them. They've been modded to they can fit to 13inch wheels, becuase there 14's. Make your tryes look like low pro's.

12042010426.jpg

After messing about with all that, i remembered what i set out to do that day and that was to make up the fuel lines , Using a large universal filter, T-peice and hose connectors.

10042010420.jpg

10042010419.jpg

10042010418.jpg

Look pretty good tbh, just gotta change the jubilees for propper hose clamps and then fit it to the hard plastic pipe from under the car. I'm gonna have the part of the tubing with the filter on going to the carb. This helps even out the flow of the fuel and acts as another regulator.

And Now , for the climax. My new exhast backbox. When is say back box its hardly a back box to be honest lol.

Basically just straight through pipe. All from stainless. And yes, CUSTOM MADE! :-D

09042010411.jpg

09042010410.jpg

09042010409.jpg

09042010408.jpg

Basically its a 5 peice assmebly, The main body which is just stainless tube, then the two end bits which are the inlet and outlet, then two adapters that change the ends of the main body to different diamiters so the end tubes can slot in. I'm then gonna rivet it all together like a some of them carbon bike cans and spray the main bit black. Should look the dogs bollocks.

I also had another mid section with cat laying around so out came the grinder and a screw driver.

03042010374.jpg

LOL

Should unlock abit of power. Just scared of what the things gonna sound like. The carb - decat and then no real back box.

Oh yeah and ill give whoever can guess what these little babies are for a tenner!

All CNC machined from stainless ofcourse.

Then to top it off, a few final shots before packing away , and off to CORP in sheffield centre on the piss and pull!

10042010421.jpg

Think this one kinda sums up polly pretty well. Tools around her all the time!

03042010373.jpg

Please comment ,i like the feedback guys.

Maximus.
