Just been on Audi website and there bringing out a new model the a1! Small hatchback! I think it's a great idea personally for younger people who can't afford a3s etc and the running costs but shouldn't this have been done ages ago (maybe taken off from were the Audi 50 stopped?) ?? Are they gonna find it hard to sell like the a2??? There's alot of very good cars in it's category! Ie polo, fiesta, mini, corsa all no doubt alot cheaper! (price is tbc but Audi are quite expensive after all!)

loads of engine varients (plus 1 varient with a electric motor in the rear to take over when needed, said to be very torquey)

just for reference the "GAY2" was a huge flop, not the best car audi designed, wish someone would destroy them all!

the marketing around the A1 should be a hell of a lot better, but thats only what I'm told!

I only found out the car existed last week when i was looking on the Audi website.

they've been talking about it for about 6 months at least now, but no official pics have come out until recently! not sure on release date they keep sayin late 2010, but I'm only a techy! (dont sell em, just fix em!)

due to go on training course soon, so will ask more when i get to VW training centre in MK. they get to see everything first!

Do you not think VAG already have competing products? Like the Golf vs A3 vs Leon vs Octavia for example.

However they're seperated by pricing and, more importantly, the brand values each VAG marque appears to have.

Its not all about affordability though,many of us dont want bigger cars.

I've not been interested in Alfas for ages,until i saw the Mito.

The A2 wasn't pretty but some of the quirks (ribbed roof,plastic rear arches) were because it was made of aluminium.

That A1 should be a good 200kgs lighter than the A3,though i dont like some of the technology being used Audis at the moment. No car should have automatic parking,let alone one in danger of being a first car or learner car (though given how poor the visibility will be,perhaps not such a bad thing).

I'll admit to having a bit of a soft spot for the A2. Very clever piece of design, just a shame the aluminium body made it so expensive for a small car.

I personally think it looks amazing (each to there own hey!), but, if you google image it, theres some images with views for the back and my gosh does it look wank!

was just filling up petrol and saw this months "autocar" and its all over the front cover, article statin engine types, and even options of the seven speed s-tronic box.

loads of lil extra that look quite trick, and prices being stated at around 13000, for an audi thats gotta be quite good, i'd prefere A1 over a mini any day of the week for that price!

Bold move by Audi again. It would be the same reason I would not buy a new Polo over a Golf in this instance.
