Hey hey I'm picking up a 1.0lMk3 Breadvan for the gf on saturday. Thing is she is moaning that it's going to feel slow after driving her heap of junk (ford ka).

I'm considering some very very simple bolt on mods to shut her up. I have asked a similar question on here before but now need to ask some more specific questions.

I want to chane the inlet manifold and filter, possibly for a cone filter, which was suggested on the first topic i posted. What exact mani do i need to change to (think its off a golf but what mk and engine size)?

Along with that i think i want to change the throttle body, this was again suggested the last time i aked for ideas, but it wasnt specified which throttle body i should go for?

I will want to change the chip, whats the best chip to go for after i ave made the two above mods?

Last but not least how easy is all of this to do?

Is it one of the original 1.3 Kas she had? If so, I wouldn't worry, there wouldn't be a lot between them. If you just change the throttle body and injector for the 1.4 ABD versions, or even a 1.3 AAV Mk3, then it'll have a useful boost in performance, personally I'd leave the manifold alone, you need all the torque you can get. Decat it, and get a normal 1.0 AAU chip from Poloace. The ignition maps are totally different on his chips and make a huge difference in driveability.

Can i decat it without having to put the cat back on every time i want to MOT it, its a 1993 car so i dont think i can.#

If i change the throttle body do i have to change the injectors, isn't a job that requires competence (something which i lack)?

Which mods can i get away with insurance wise, if you catch my drift?

No you can't but it's a simple downpipe change on a Mk3. Just get a decat downpipe. Could fit a GT system as well, would help a bit.

Yeah the 1.3 Kas were pretty slow, but also pretty easy to get reasonable power out of, and even easier to drop in a better engine.

It's just one injector, you take off the entire throttle body/injector assembly, and replace it like for like. Piece of piss!

Insurance wise, you'd get away with the throttle body/injector, a GT cam if you wanted, a GT exhaust, a chip more than likely.

Ok I'm probably just going to change the T.B and get the 1.0 chip from poloace.

Those two jobs will pretty much exhaust my talent pool :p. Especially after I'm done changing the springs and messing about with the clutch cable.

What about a 1.3 head?

They have larger valves.......

Wouldn't advice swapping a head , its a pretty intricate job with a lot of things to go wrong.

And to the above, Yep the GT cam will fit straight in , give you a bigger lift and duration of valve openings.

Id recommend GT cam with bigger TB and free flowing air intake and exhaust.

Yeah thats why i said BUT i want really simple mods. I think it will just be the TB and chip.

What air intake would you recommend using? Can you use one off a mk2 golf? Remember i'm only after cheap mods please :)

yes , Buy my chip :), Then get the bigger bore exhaust from a GT coupled with a intake elbow from a mk2 golf,dont know the correct model. Go on the engine section and then the FAQ, it tells you on there.

I'm not changing the exhaust. And I'm not sure about modifying the air intake, want insurance friendly modifications
