Work out my offset...

Hey guys jus picked up some banded steels and trying to work out the actual width and offset they have slightly diff offsets front and rear apparently..

Pair 1 -

Overall width - 234mm

Width between inner lips - 206

Distance from hub face to front lip - 127mm

Distance from hub face to rear lip - 105mm

Pair 2 -

Overall width - 234mm

Width between inner lips - 206

Distance from hub face to front lip - 120mm

Distance from hub face to rear lip - 112mm

I get it to ET -1 and Et -8.... this look right?

Any help welcomed!

well first things first, your measurements are slightly out,

If we call the distance from hub face to front 'F'

And the distance from hub face to rear 'R'

And the total width 'T'

Then F + R = T

In your specs F +R = T - 2

So both F and R are out by 1mm.

So with this corrected,

Wheel 1

F = 128mm

R = 106mm

T = 234mm

Wheel 2

F = 121mm

R = 113mm

T = 234mm

So to work out the offset 'ET':

Wheel 1

ET = (T/2)-F

ET = (234/2)-128

ET = 117-128

ET = -11

Wheel 2

ET = -4

So you weren't far out.

8j et -11 and 8j et -4

Cheers mate, I figured the 2mm was the thickness of the steel, wasnt sure where to add the 2mm too....

ahh, if its the steel then it's -13 and -6 but i'd hope the steel is thicker than 2mm. the hub face is where the wheel meets the hub so you should add the thickness to the front measurement.

for people looking into thois thread and wondering what all this calculation is about....

from the mm numbers you have provided...

they appear to be 8 inch wide

the distance from the back of the hub to the inner edge of wheel (backspace) is 4" on one pair, 4.5" on others

so 1 pair would be around et-12

why do you care what the ET is anyway, what will it change knowing the exact ET? just seems like a pointless question really. just slap them on and go "shit they dont fit" end of.

Its a pointless question when you don't have a clue.

Offsets make a huge difference on how the wheel sits in the arch. Anyone can go buy some wide wheels and slap them on a car. But its the people who sit down and work out what widths and offsets they need with which tyres to pull of the look correctly. After all this whole 'euro' bandwagon is supposed to be about attention to detail right?

Offsets matter when your wanting to do things like this. Like have your arch inbetween the tyre and the lip of the rim. mm make a difference at that point.

Or when you want to fit 17x10s to a car which came with 14x6 as standard.

The 4" and 4.5" bit is correct but the offsets I gave are correct, not -12 and 0, you are confusing the 'J' measurement with the outer edge measurements. Not being funny but I cant be arsed drawing a diagram so please just take my word for it and don't argue it out! :lol:

1. My old rims were 8x13 et 0 and they were under the arches on 175.50's...

2. I wanted to know the ET so I had an idea of the dif, between these and my old rims...

3. I cant 'jus slap them on' as my car is at a garage 12 miles away...

but thanks for your input....

Oh and I'll make them fit, dont worry bout that.

1. Find out what the original ET of your wheels is.

2. Take the amount that you have added to the wheels in inches, and convert to mm.

3. Divide it by 2.

4. Take that figure away from your original ET to get the new ET.

Its something we were told when we were trying to work out the ET of splits having got new dishes.

Works about right I think :)

ye, that works if you have added the extra width to the outside.

I've been trying to work out my ET if i get my steels banded.

Standard Vento Steels, 14x6j ET45

Thinking of going to 14x8j with 2 inch bands on the front face.

Will this make 14x8j Et20?
