If you need some machine polishing action i would be quite happy to come round with my newly aquired machine polisher and wide array of polishes and pads etc, give you a hand shining the old girl up :).

Thanks everyone i still have loads to do on the old girl yet in the form of rust removal but she is getting their bless her.

Ashley i may take you up on that, i am yet to find anyone local who is willing to machine polish the old bird so i may take a roadtrip and come get some help one of these weekends. (google maps link)

Great progress so far bud but my only concern will be that when you come to putting on the colour it will really show up against the dull paint....

Would a good machine polish help blend it all in?

P.s. I have a ebay machine polisher - can any tell me the difference between the heads?

Cheers Ashley, thats for the info will have a lookie - I am afraid to say its a cheap one for now....I am being very careful not to burn the paint etc When I get a decent motor I will invest in a decent polisher - just need to convince the wife that life would be better with a corrado in the drive :-D

yeah i got halfords paint when i repaired my rusty roof and the colour match was awful! I'm gonna have to redo it in the summer so i would like to know whats best too

Hi Mate, my polos the same colour and was in much worse state when I got it. A few good goes with T-Cut will bring the paintwork up a treat. Then, once you are happy with the result (colour match is even etc) a few good layers of WAX will help to prevent the colour from fading. 'Mer' seem to sell good products, and I've found from previous experience that a good hard wax, several layers of, should prevent fade for a few years. Elbow grease is required, and generally the more time and effort put in, the better the result.

If your spraying with aerosol cans, it would be worth investing in some cutting compound as well as T-Cut and fine grade wet and dry sandpaper. This will help blend in the paint making it less obvious you have patched a section of the bodywork. I have personally found that it is better to allow the top layer of paint sufficient time to dry (few weeks) before using cutting compound.

Good idea to treat this rust before it turns into rot and causes MOT failure etc. :-)

Forgot to say, your probably gonna get alloys anyway, but if you keep the Steels, and spray them, make sure you clear lacquer them a few times to give them better protection against stone chips etc. Good Luck

Halfords paint cans have been alright for me and people I know. Test it on some tin foil or something before you spray. If you aren't happy with the match, take it back.

Looking good so far mate with the rust repair, sorry I lost track of this thread! I'm going to be doing some rust repair to mine again soon so might get a progress thread going.
