1.4 8v Tuning

Featured Replies

after I've got my 6n running sweet il be looking into tuning her.

Obviously, air filter and a SS exhaust are coming.

Is a ecu+remap worth the money?

And whats the average bhp with these mods?

Carbs dont seem to be worth the hassle imo.

And converting to 1.4 16v isnt ideal as i cant afford a donor car + I'm not risking dodgy insurance as i wont be able to afford it declared.

thanks.

Depends, Favernungen don't do a chip as yet, dont know about anyone else.

Stick a high lift cam in there perhaps?

Or go completely nuts and get a supercharger? has been done to that engine in a lupo, went like shit off a stick!

Carbs just seem to be unreliable, and i wouldnt know where to start lol.

if done properly they are as reliable as a standard 1.4 8v! you can get chips for a 6n 1.4 8v on ebay they only do about 5bhp tho as aposed to carbs that CAN give up to 25 bhp! your probably not interested but i have same car and I'm thinking about, bike carbs, decent inlet manifold, exhaust manifold, exhaust and cams! should make it pretty bloody nippy!

do the whole exhaust, right through, maybe de cat for extra oomf

you'll be seeing 100-110bhp,

and will probably pull harder than a valver even at 100hp

Gozzard, your telling me, Fitting / getting the carbs perfectly tuned is no hassle? and cheap?

You can get a set of carbs off eBay real cheap and then all the rest you need is cheap

aswell! Rolling road setup will be the most expensive thing tbh! Alot cheaper than a remap and rolling road session!

Your not going to get 100-100bhp from an engine which starts at barely 60 bhp!

that depeneds really on the parts and the setting up!, its not barely 60bhp it is 60 bhp and if you take a minimum of 10bhp for the carbs, an extra 10 bhp for fanimolds and exhaust, thats 80bhp already thats without any porting or polishing or cams! (dont really know the figures of gains these mods give) then all the little touches like a good cold air supply and knife edging the carbs etc theres no reason y it cannot reach 100bhp with the right setup and components! maybe its not easily achieable or safe for the engine but doable imho, but even at 80bhp thats neary as fast as my dads 90 bhp a4 tdi which is plenty fast enough for uk roads!

imagine if it was the 100bhp 1.4 16v! could be impressive!
