basically, car has been running crap since i severed the exhaust at the cat, was running rich and cutting out. managed a temporary fix til i get it replaced next week, and seems to be running fine again....BUT...still cuts out.

when i start the car fuel pump whirrs to life then goes off and all starts well, but once i get it started i can hear the pump whirring away constantly, and i've never noticed it before?? am i only noticing it coz its cutting out, or could it be a factor? really pissing me off having to start it up EVERYTIME i stop.

as a result of the damaged exhaust, lambda readings must be wrong. is it possible that the lambda probe is dirty enough, causing the car to overfuel, hence the pump continuously whirring? when the exhaust gets fixed, is the problem likely to get solved? would the lambda cause this problem with the pump? should i replace the lambda?

i've checked the relay by the ecu, and it seems fine, but i assume if that was eff'd id have nothing happening.

i read that a dodgy earth might cause the fuel pump to act like this. checked a couple will inspect the rest. coincidentally had the illumination electrics blew the other day...sorted now though...

any help or advice much appreciated

checked the earths today and all are fine. was reading up and possibility is a faulty fuel pump relay draining the battery causing it to stall???

so may possibilities, anyone point me in the right direction??
