did you get the engine out of a passat mate? if so, i dont think it'll fit. they're mounted differently in a passat than in a golf or s3 etc.

just a heads up!

If it's been mounted in a Golf before then it'll be fine surely?

Passat engines are longitudinal (front to back) and Golfs are transverse (side to side) - if it's got a Golf gearbox and mounts it'll be no worse than swapping one from a Golf.

keep on posting your progress pal

cool to see how this turns out

not a passat mk4 gti.

ah right, i read the post in that link quickly and saw passat a few times so thought it was out of a passat

use a golf mk2 gti clutch cable and you should be okay. :)

shit, just looked back through that, I'm not looking at the right cable.

ideally you should have a box with a hydro clutch on it, i don't think an 8V mk3 GTI box is going to hold up to any kind of decent driving.

You can use a lupo GTI pedal box, you'll have to either use a mk5 polo GTI bulkhead or just drill a hole in yours to mount the master cylinder, then you can use a cable shift mech from a loop along with an ABF or ideally a G60 box with a VR6 clutch, all of the above including the mk3 one you've got will require some kind of custom mounting, but since the engine will anyways you'll already have something on the cards for this.
