my mate went to get some new tyres on his rims.

Hi had 175/50s before which they just put the air line on them and they popped on.

But the garage couldnt get the 165s to pop over the bead.

They tried loads of methods.

anyone else got any ideas?

there bridgestones that hes trying to get stretched.

Maybe its because the tyres are having to stretch 1.4 inches!

I'm no expert on tyre stretching but to me if your trying to put a tyre on a rim thats 1.4inches bigger than the tyre then its not likely to work...or work well.

Why didn't he just stick with the 175s?

I had 165's on a 7" rim and that was tough enough to seat - all I can say on the matter is:-

I have 165's on 8's. Place I got them done said it took 2 bead cheaters and 20 stone of weight on the wheel... haha

You'll defo need a bead cheater / blaster to get it on, it was the same with my 195/45s on a 9j, the bead of the tyre didnt even touch the inside of the wheel like they did on the 8j's, so you need a massive blast of air to get them to pop on..

yea totally agree with the bead blaster.

the guy tried that but completely bloody missed.

not true, this is a mate of mines. the rear is running 8.5J on a 165/45 and the fronts are 8J on a 165.

I have 165/50 potenza's on 7J rims. The matey needed a bead blaster thing to get them seated to the rim, then needed to fill them with about 40psi to get them to pop onto the lip of the rim...

either use universal 15" inner tubes to blow them on, then take them out when they've stretched.

or just blow them on with fire...

wheel on floor with rubber around, stand on tyre either side and pull wheel to get the tyre partially on one side,

apply something flammable to the inside of the tyre on the other side all around. if you use petrol or carb cleaner, spray a mark accross the tyre to the floor, stand back and light fluid.

the ignition draws air thats inside the tyre, and sucks the tyre on the rim.

Don't use petrol, it will just fuck your tyre. It won't ignite in the right way. It'll just set the tyre on fire which isn't what you want.
