Ok, here goes:

With headlights on (and ignition and engine off) if i flash Main Beam twice (Both to the second click) the fans run while holding the Main Beam on on the second flash e.g Flash, Release, Flash & Hold = Fans!

again, with headlights on (Ignition and engine off) if i hold Main Beam on to first click, fans run?!

Also, i have DRL's wired directly to sidelights - if i put headlights on then start the car, the DRL's turn off but all other lighting is on.

If i very slowly turn on the sidelights, i can get just the sidelights to turn on and no DRL's even though the sidelight cables have been 'butchered' (for want of a better word) to wire in the DRL's in the same circuit.

I also have some (non e-marked) LED Stop lights (the ones with about 19 Red LED's each, from halfords) when ignition is on (wether or not the engine in running, only the middle LED lights up (unless braking when they all come on!) when i switch ignition off, the single middle LED stays lit for about 10 seconds (even without the key in the ignition)

It only does it with these bulbs and only when in the brake light socket, i've tried in fog light and no such problems

Can anyone help rectify any (preferably all) of the problems listed above.

This is normal, my mk3 does it, its a testing feature for VW to make sure it all works without the keys

Cant help with this one, only thing i'd suggest is check your wiring from the sidelight wire to the DRL's, sounds like a faulty connection

I imagine this is because the LED's have a lower resistance than normal bulbs, to they well flicker or stay on, even when you haven't told them to, if you've got a LED interior light, watch the bulb when the light is turned off :)

I do have an LED interior light and have seen no problems with it at all (no delayed current etc.)

I think you are on the right lines with the Lower resistance of LED's but why would they stay slightly lit in ONLY the brake light bulb connector? i've tried it in Reverse, Fog and indicators and have no problems with them in there (except the fast 'Bulb Blown' flash you get from Indicators, but that was only a test )

BTW, did the pics help with the lighting problems?
