Hey just thought I'd post this up to see feedback from people experienced which aint gonna try to rip me off :-D I brought my valver to a VW dealership to get them to have a look and sort out my valver's idling problem! They run some test on it and found that some wiring that was connected to the ECU as wired wrong. They fixed that and gave me the car back and everything was OK for a little while. Now the idling has come back and is worse then before. I contact them back and they said that I need a new ECU

Does this sound right? Could it be the ECU, which is cause the erratic idling, and also the car has started cutting out when I come to a stop? They quoted me 520 pounds for the ECU and about 600 with labour If I do need a new ECU is there anywhere I could get a brand new one cheaper?

Was also wondering do they do performance ECU for a 6n 1.4 16v?

this, and the fact that polo idling problems are very common suggests you are being taken for a rape trip to the woods.. what exactly made them think it was ECU, and not something normal like throttle body playing up?

I would have said it's an intake air leak, or at worst the throttle body will need replacing as per usual 6N issues..

At this stage I would prefer if it was a throttle body that needed replacing ! The previous owner I got the engine from replaced the throttle body not so long ago he said ! They said they want to have another look to to confirm if I need that part as it's a alot money

to be honest, it's not likely to be an ecu failiure.. but there's something fishy going on when they say 'it was wired up wrong mate' if however it has failed it was probably them that ****ed it up by fiddling with wiring they don't fully understand..

you don't need to buy a new one per se, you can use one of a scrapper, but if your car has aircon be sure to get the ecu from a car which also has aircon.

yea i found some cheap one's on ebay but VW dont work with used parts ! I would take it to another garage but i think they have to set up the replacement ECU to macth so it works with my car !

yeah that's right, but it is really easy to do if you have vagcom
