Hi everybody,

Just found this forum & wonder if anyone can answer a couple of questions for me.

My son has just bought a 1.2 3 cylinder polo a 53 plate with 70,000 mile on the clock.

How easy is it to change the spark plugs on this model, I have taken the engine cover off but all I can see is what looks like 3 small coils underneath, I didn't want to pull them off in case I damaged anything.

Also a chap at work told me my son had made a mistake getting that model as the timing chain tensioner breaks & damages the engine, is there any truth in this.

to remove the spark plugs all you have to do is pull the coils off and unscrew the plugs with a wrench and socket. Is it the model with the duel camshafts? if not, it is the same as mine and as far as i know it is a non interference engine ie the pistons and valves can never touch not even if the timing chain goes. if the tensioner goes, the car will simply stall.

Thanks for the reply, all I know is that it is a 1.2cc 3 cylinder 12 valve 65bhp engine, the car is a sept 2003 model. Are there a lot of problems with the cam chain tensioner on this model?
