Mk3 Polo Genesis

Here it goes. I'm finally saying good bye to our wicked little polo as i've bought a mk3 Golf GTI.

Bought it off eBay nearly three years ago and I can't fault it, though it does have some faults.

106,000 miles

3 owners

Purchased from Pulman garage in Durham and serviced there every February up to 71,206 miles on 19-02-2004. I bought it at 87,000. I dealt with the son in law of the second owner who did mechanical work on the car during that ownership.

It's had two oil & filter changes since i've had it, new discs on the front along with pads, air filter, track-control arms, rear shocks and rear wheel bearings (when i bought it). New distributor cap & rotor, plugs and leads at about 102,000.

I've used the car to go between Newcastle and Colchester countless times and its never missed a beat. Went to Glastonbury in it, went around the Highlands etc etc etc. I can't stress how well it's done. Went straight through MOT last year, year before that only needed new brake pipes and a couple of section of exhaust.

The crack with it is that it's getting to the point where it's either; scrap it or restore it, and i don't have the space, tools nor experience to do it myself and i certainly won't pay a garage to do it. So, i'm offering it to someone who wants a polo to do up or bring back to good original condition.

Here are the bad bits

Body

Roof tiles blew off and landed on sunroof denting and scratching it. It was also a bit stiff once and wouldn't open so i pushed it down and where i pushed now doesn't come back up when it's closed. Think the worm got stretched.

Drivers side is tatty, though only on door and wing. Wing has bubble on arch, door has a couple of dents and rust which has been filled and sprayed poorly.

Hole under battery.

Engine

Runs and starts fine, always has.

Electrical

Fan speed resistors have gone so it only has full blast on the heater. Also no hot air through dash vents. Ok everywhere else but not the dash vents which i can't work out.

Suspension

Rear springs rattling in turrets. Think the cause is the spring cups because the top mounts are good. It's always had this problem but never got round to doing it, though i do have some spare cups for it.

Front suspension corrosion was an advisory note on last MOT

Other bits

Boot lock has very recently siezed. I'm sure it just needs lubing.

Exhaust heat shielding above cat has dropped due to fixings being corroded. Same thing happened with handbrake cable.

Joint between front pipe and mid pipe on exhaust has blow. This was due to a idiot mechanic who never fitted it properly and it subsequently dropped down, opening up the joint some time after so i bodged it myself with two clamps.

The original back shelf is at my Grans in Essex which i can collect after the 19th April when i go down.

That's an honest description if ever there was one! Here are some pics.
