2004 POLO Rear screen wash not working

Featured Replies

Hi all.

In another post regarding ISO connectors on a radio/cassette, I had included a plea for information and advice about the rear screen wash.I have now wsolved the problem and I guess some guys may want to share my findngs.

The washer stopped working during the big freeze and led me to think that the line may have frozen and a joint came undone. (My daughter's car and only two weeks ownership. Previous owner had filled the wash tank with water and not a proprietary screenwash to prevent freezing)

I knew there was a pipe joint in the rear just behind the passenger seat and about 18inches high. checked this out and found the joint separated. Reconnected and turned on the washer. Motor turned but no water.

After dropping the bumper to access the tank I found the route of the pipes. And the leak was from a joint just in front of the bulkhead on the passenger side. Just under the ABS hydraulic unit. Had to remove the battery and what a nuisancae that was. But got it fixed eventually and secured with a Tie Rap. Why a joint in the most inaccessible place in the engine bay?????

And removing the bumper was totally unnecessary too. But thepipe was so well hidden I would never have found it otherwise.

Hope nobody has this fault. And anyway nobody will have it unless its a freezing winter and he has not used the correct screenwash.

Happy motoring,

Krait.

All polo's I've come across seem to have problems with their windscreen washing system. I've had pumps crack and many pipes popping open on various cars.
