Hi just fitting a new head unit for my polo (1995 1.3 cl) but i have come across a wire arrangement which i haven't seen before for a polo as there is no iso cable from the car. Just a selection of wires and I'm just wondering if anyone knows of how to connect the head unit and the speakers to my car any help would be good thanks/...

Best thing to do is go to either halfords or maplins and get a new ISO block and have it wired in. Some strange people like to hard wire their head units in which is what your issue sounds like.

Hi I managed to do it myself three fuses later!

this is basically for all those who have the same problem as i couldn't find anything on here telling me how to do it, so bare with me. If you have the same problem as me then the wires coming out from the stereo section of the car will be:

-a thicker red wire (compared wuth the others)

-a thicker brown wire (compared with the others also)

-a thinner red wire

-a brown/red wire

-a blue wire

-a blue/brown wire

-a grey wire

-a grey/black wire

-a white wire

-a white/black wire

and then before you start linking wires up you need to buy an iso adapter harness (which basically helps to link the wires from your stereo to your car) there is a link to it in the previous post to this. cost about £10

once you have this then you will realize that in the iso jack you just bought has two plastic covers -one with purple, green, white and grey wires coming out and the other red, brown, yellow etc...the one with red wires are the power cables and the multicolored wires are for your speakers.

start with the power cables...the iso cable connector you just bought will have two red wires, a brown and maybe a yellow/green and an orange. The ones you need to concentrate on are the red and the brown ( these are positive and nagative) connect both the red ones from the iso connector to the thicker red wire from out of the car and either using electrical tape or connectors connect them. Then the thicker brown wire from the car connect with the brown wire from the iso connector. IMPORTANT: dont let the red and brown wires touch each other as this will blow the fuse in either the stereo or the car!

thats your power sorted so check if the stereo head unit turns on once this is all connected.

Now you need to connect the speaker wires with this i found that a bit of trial and error comes into play nicely here. :-) basically the iso adapter will have -green & green/black wire rear left speakers

-purple & purple/black wire rear right speakers

-white & white/black wire front left speakers

-grey & grey/black wire front right speakers

now what you need to do is get some sound from your headunit (e.g cd) and just mess about with balance and fade in order to determine which of your speaker wires from your car connects with the the wires from the iso conector. In my car i found that the blue/brown and the red/brown were the front speakers (I'm not sure which one was left and which one was right)

so basically once your speaker cable is connected connect the aerial into the back of the head unit (obviouklsy) and bobs your uncle!
