Dub17's Monza Blue mk2 Golf GTi Valver.

Featured Replies

Well as some people may know i had a White 6n for a year and a half and did a fair bit to it, but sold that a month ago to get something with a bit more pull, so after a month and a half of searching i pounced on this and purchased it last night.

I would be lieing if i say it's mint, far from it, there are verious places where you can start to see rust trying to kreep through, so the plan is to get the bodywork sorted bedfore i do anything els.

So it is sitting on 80mm springs and ajustable dampers and BBS RA's.

G60 arches

Single grill, crystal headlights.

Single wiper.

Scorpion DTM exhaust system.

So the plans is to get rid of the few bits of rust, also some kind person has took the time to put a nice key down part of the drivers side, thanks. so will have to get that sorted also.

Will get some nice recaro interor for her eventully and should be on coilovers by edition38 show with some nice spacers to get her nice and wide.

well some pictures...

the exhaust has a rubber missing so the lop-sided'ness will disapear at the weekend.

well got my stereo working yesterday, (manages put a nice deep hole in my finger in the proccess) and shall be taking a few pictures with my mates mk2 golf later.

Have decided to wait until the week after next to get insured to give me more time to sort out the exhaust and also get some normal number plates on her as i cannot afford constant £60 fines with the german ones currently on there..

So i had a look at the exhaust yesterday and seen that he has welded the backbox on, so i have to go further back the exhaust system to release it and turn it, but the way it turns it just pushes the backbox up against the bottom of the car even more :-(

The only thing that confusing me is that the battery is flat, but i jump leaded her yesterday, and the alternator is charging the battery as i put a meter on it but the battery just doesnt seem to charge up. :? Should have tested the end of the lead that goes to the battery thinking of it, will try that in a minute. How much is a new battery, it just could be that it's nackerd.

I'm having a hard time deciding on what wheels to get her as i want to get something diffrent, but won't be for a few months yet so plenty of time to research :D

Picture i took just now.. needs some nice wide dishes though.

Okay well replaced the starter motor today, she lives again!

Managae to kind of sort the exhaust out so it doesnt vibrate against the bottom of the car.

Now what is left to do it just get the keying down the driver side sorter and get some wheels, i was thinking schmidt modernlines. pictures will be taken at the weekend if the sun decides to make an appearance.

looks sweet Dale, is that the backbox you got off me in the pic ? did it fit okay ?

  • Author

nah my mate baught that backbox off me for what i paid for it form you, but he decided he is going to get a full system made up in june so he is just selling it on again at the same price haha, will it ever make itself onto a car??

Going to test her with a voltmeter tomrow as the battery doesnt seem to charge, but last week when i tested it, it told me its being charged by the alternator :S so I'm very confused, also going to spend a few hours waxing her so will take a few pictures i guess :D hopfully find the fault, could only be a few things i guess, just need her sorted as she gets insured next week!

also as you can see the bumper hangs a little bit low, i tryed lifting it up but it on there like that solid so has stumped me a bit.. and yes i have a bit of trim missing, going to get that next week..

If the alternator is defiantly charging, then the battery is probably knackered.

  • Author

yeah charged the batter for a few hours today, so going to leave her for 3-4 days then try her again. if she starts, then its all good, if not, then something is draining the battery.. will just have to wait and see. spent about 3 or 4 hours cleaning/waxing/linseed'ing her today, she is rather shiney now :D

once a battery goes flat once its never the same again...

Just thought ide say a quick few words really.

Found out that the battery was getting shorted behind the dash, so kind of sorted that out, and hasent given me any problems for over a week now.

Coilies coming in week or two along with some spacers to try get a bit of stance on her, idealy i will eventully get a little bit of stretch so i can get a bit lower.

The only problem can think of is when i put on the spacers I'm going to have to put a bit of height on her to clear the arches witch I'm not looking foward to, is why i want the stretch to componsate.

Other plans include getting the scatch removed before poloshow and might have some new wheels by then, if not my current wheels will be re-sprayed and have stretch on them.

Also gettin the Manifold and rocker cover polished.

Time to give her a clean and wax, then pop down to get her some legal plastic plates.

Enjoy.

Done this at the weekend, would have been better un darker material, also te angle makes it look a bit naff.

Its all wired up, just need a stereo with a pre-amp output witch I'm getting wensday so then i can see what she sounds like.

Oh have also sprayed a blue stripe around the grille witch makes it look like a limited edition one, i tryed to buy a genuine one but couldnt find one anywhere.. will get a picutre on wensday and stick it up here.

Should also be getting crystal clear headlights on wensday, and maybe some crystal fogs if I'm lucky.

Love this car, i'm looking at a Mk2 Golf GTi for my next car. It'll have to be an 8v for insurance reasons (19 with 0 ncb sucks!) but its still a GTi. Currently got a 6n 1.4 8v, how did you find the differences between the cars and was it worth it? More pictures required btw :D

  • Author

Cheers, nothing wrong with 8v's, they sound lush when you put your foot down hard.

I also had a 1.4 8v 6n as you may know, you will find the gti, being the same weight as a 6n but with all that extra power, you are defently going to enjoy yourself! But i do still miss my polo sometimes, but i still get my leccy windows and power steering so yeah, i love my Golf to bits :D

I still would like to get a mk3 polo G40 in a year or two though. but would also like to VR6 my golf so not sure if there would be much point, i could put the money towards that instead.

Defently worth the trade, and i still hang around this forum because all the decent people here, edition forum just isnt for me (even though i go on it occassionally), i made some decent friends here, so here i shall stay.

I could put up alot more pictures, i just didnt want to bore people.

Yeah i'll miss the "comfort" but I think it'll be worth it, its nothing that some dynomat and a decent spec mk2 can't sort though :D

Edition is a good forum for info, but i prefer smaller clubs where things are a bit more personal. More pics defo wont bore me, never used to like the colour but its a real grower and would consider it if one came up for sale. Love the tornado red, black, white and oak green though, so plenty to chose from.
